We are seeking an experienced Multi Asset Portfolio Manager to join abrdn MAIS team in overseeing the management of a diverse range of portfolios within our multi-asset suite of capabilities and products, with focus on Singaporean, South East Asian and Australian markets. It requires analyzing the macroeconomic landscape, making investment decisions across equities, fixed income, currencies, and alternative assets across client portfolios, and evaluating the Fund Selection team’s recommended managers and funds for investment in client portfolios.
The ideal candidate will also operate as part of the global Client Investment Solutions (CIS) team and perform to required responsibilities. This role involves meaningful efforts and time commitment contributing to the global MAIS business across different portfolios in Bespoked Solutions or Model Portfolio Services for instance. Required activities could be in portfolio design and construction, investment strategy formulation or portfolio management as needed by the group.
The ideal candidate will report to the Deputy Global Head of MAIS overseeing MAIS activities in the APAC region
Responsibilities
Conduct both quantitative and qualitative analyses of the macroeconomic environment and assessment of investment opportunities to effectively manage multi-asset portfolios in delivering to client objectives.
Remain current with news and developments across global financial markets as well as important trends in macroeconomic and geopolitical issues, contributing strategy ideas to the global and regional team
Demonstrate these insights through compelling articulation in concise research notes.
Active participation in global CIS and MAIS meetings and forums to share developments, themes, and investment ideas.
Undertake activities in portfolio design and construction, investment strategy formulation and research or portfolio management as needed by CIS for global portfolios and projects.
Enhance the current investment process by contributing to MAIS and CIS deliberations in developing and refining models for evaluating asset classes strategies and overall portfolios.
Drive portfolio strategies to achieve performance excellence, in outperforming peer groups and client investment and risk objectives.
Understand all portfolio holdings in depth with detailed monitoring of portfolio holdings. Implement portfolio hedges to mitigate related macro risks as needed.
Monitor peer universe, competitor products’ holdings and portfolio positioning as well as broader industry and product trends to ensure the MAIS team stays competitive
Partner with Performance reporting team where required, with portfolio performance reporting and attribution analytics to support ongoing “look through” analysis of underlying fund holdings
Work with Investment Specialists to provide portfolio and investment related information to clients in the form of presentations, written commentaries and responses to ad hoc requests. This involves writing or reviewing of investment meeting summaries, portfolio strategy commentaries and investor letters
Work with Investment Specialists, Client Group & Business Development, Product teams to assist in responding to RFPs, present to clients in pitch and review meetings, support development of new products as needed
Aid in building and maintaining client relationships, pro-actively resolve issues, respond promptly to client queries.
Develop and maintain proficiency with Charles River OMS system in order to provide back-up assistance with multi-asset portfolio implementation and trading where needed.
Ad hoc projects as needed for instance, supervise and train junior staff (i.e. summer interns, GBA’s)
Skills and Competencies
Broadly between 7-10 years of experience in global cross-asset investment management as lead or supporting Portfolio Manager for live portfolios.
Deep understanding of the key drivers of the macroeconomic environment, along with a keen awareness of investor positioning and technical analysis.
Proficient in constructing multi-asset, multi-manager portfolios. Strong familiarity with multi-asset investing and global asset classes dynamics and factor drivers.
Experience and knowledgeable in the use of derivatives for portfolio management and allocation decisions
Capable of clearly and effectively communicating investment themes within a highly collaborative culture.
Driven with ability to self-motivate, handle multiple tasks effectively and work within tight deadlines
Proficiency with Bloomberg and Factset are preferred. Experience in manager selection and using analytical tools such as Morningstar Direct, python and Factset would be considered a plus in the selection process.
Excel knowledge and quantitative competency is preferred, with ability to perform basic simulations, running data analyses and putting together competitor analyses
