Based at our Mater Misericordiae Hospital and Queensland Children's Hospital
This is a unique opportunity for a Principal Specialty Supervisor to make a meaningful impact on the next generation of medical professionals through high-quality, clinically relevant education within the Clinical Unit. Working collaboratively with the Specialty Supervisor, you will play a key role in integrating learning across all four years of the program, ensuring a cohesive and enriching student experience.
At UQ, you will be embedded within a dynamic hospital and community care environment, building strong partnerships with clinicians to enhance teaching and learning. Your visible leadership and established academic profile within your specialty will position you to influence educational excellence, strengthen clinical engagement, and contribute to a culture of collaboration, innovation, and real-world impact.
Key responsibilities will include but not limited to:
Clinical Teaching & Student Experience: Deliver high-quality teaching, supervision, assessment, and feedback across all years, fostering clinical competence, professional identity, and a consistently positive student experience.
Leadership in Education & Quality Improvement: Support and guide clinical colleagues in supervision and teaching, while contributing to continuous improvement in curriculum design, assessment, and learning quality within the Clinical Unit.
Collaboration & Academic Engagement: Work closely with Academic Title Holders, clinicians, and relevant academies to strengthen integrated learning and advance educational practice.
Research & Scholarly Contribution (where applicable): Maintain an active clinical and/or education research profile, contribute to funding applications, and apply best-practice methodologies to inform teaching and learning.
Professional Leadership & Service: Model UQ values through inclusive, respectful leadership; contribute to governance, student support and career guidance, and engage in ongoing professional development and compliance activities.
Organisational Relationships: This position reports to the Head, Mater Clinical Unit with functional oversight from the Head, Mayne Academy of Critical Care.

Medical qualification and eligibility for registration as a medical practitioner in Australia, with a relevant specialist qualification.
PhD or equivalent in the disciplinary area, or an appropriate combination of professional and academic service relevant to the field.
An established profile in clinical teaching and/or clinical research in the discipline area.
Evidence of a substantial senior contribution to quality clinical teaching at undergraduate postgraduate and/or professional entry level.
Expert discipline knowledge and extensive experience in a general or specialist capacity, including evidence of dissemination and adoption of new and innovative clinical techniques.
National record of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences with a developing international profile.
Active participation in the development and continuous innovation of programs, curricula and/or course material in the discipline area.
Record of supervision of HDR students and/or trainees in speciality training programs.
A growing record of meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with demonstrated leadership roles in external activities that foster links within the profession and the relevant specialty, including developing consultancies in speciality areas.
Appointment to this role is subject to the successful completion of relevant pre-employment checks, which may include verification of the right to work in Australia, qualifications, professional registration (AHPRA), mandatory immunisations. This may also include checks relating to gender-based violence matters or other integrity and conduct requirements.
You must maintain unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply. Employer sponsored work rights are not available for this appointment.
In this role, you will be responsible for teaching and supervising medical students within the hospital. Applicants must hold, and maintain for the duration of this appointment, a clinical position at the Mater or QCH to be considered for this opportunity.
