Your role and responsibilities
In this role, you will act as a design authority for Mine Hoist solutions, with a strong focus on electrical, control, drive systems and functional safety. Each day, you will plan and perform assignments on multiple projects of varying complexity or portions of major projects in a cost-effective manner. You will also showcase your expertise by ensuring assignments are completed in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and cybersecurity policies and standards.
This role provides a clear pathway to a future technical leadership or team leadership position within ABB's Hoisting business, as the team continues to grow in Australia.
The work model for the role is: Hybrid
This role is contributing to Hoisting business unit as part of Mining and Materials Business in Australia. The main stakeholders are our clients and project managers.
You will be mainly accountable for:
Acting as the technical interface across the complete hoisting system, working closely with mechanical, control, safety, and site commissioning teams to deliver best-in-class performance.
Serving as a trusted technical authority for customers, shaping hoisting solutions, leading technical discussions, and incorporating customer feedback to continuously improve outcomes.
Delivering projects including new hoist installations, upgrades, and life‑cycle extensions involving drive systems, safety systems, and site-based commissioning activities.
Creating work plans and cost estimates for the portfolio of projects and ensuring quality, timely implementation within the targeted cost.
Coordinating with relevant functions to ensure the designs are appropriately manufactured, staged, tested, installed, and commissioned.
Supporting and executing on-site commissioning activities.
Coaching engineering colleagues on the translation of conceptual designs to engineering documentation, best practices, and lessons learned from past projects.

Qualifications for the role
Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Mechatronic Engineering (or equivalent experience), valid in Australia
Hold, or are eligible for, professional engineering registration within Australia
Experience in mine hoisting systems or safety‑critical heavy industrial applications (e.g. winders, draglines, cranes, large drives, or similar)
Strong capability in electrical power systems, large variable speed drives, control systems, and industrial networks
