This is a hybrid position requiring 4 days in Southlake office per week for the first 90 days, and after this introductory period, can discuss with manager.
The Tax Manager will be responsible for tax compliance, filing, audit support, maintenance of general ledger tax accounts and recommendations for improved processes to enhance the accuracy and timeliness of reporting. Primary responsibilities will include timely and accurate filing of Gross Receipts, Property and Sales/Use returns, responding to external state auditors, providing oversight of City, County and State licenses and regulatory filings. Key Areas of Responsibilities
- Preparation and filing of State and Local returns for Gross Receipts, Property, Sales and Use Tax returns, and administration of related exemption certificates.
- Provide oversight for filing of City, County, State, and Country licenses and other regulatory filings and provide support for State audits and requests for further information.
- Manage income tax forecasting and cash-to-book reconciliations for a cash-basis S Corp while coordinating with external CPA firms for state and federal tax filings.
- Provide recommendations for improved processes to enhance the accuracy and timeliness of reporting and recording of monthly accruals.
- Issue guidelines/notices and provide guidance to team members on application of tax laws and methods used to collect and report data.
- Maintain records and gather necessary data, reconciliations, exemption certificates to support the company’s tax obligations and filings.
- Respond to inquires from customers and government agencies regarding tax refunds, certification compliance and other requests for information relating to tax matters.
- Complete monthly reconciliations to ensure company’s tax accounts within the general ledger are properly reconciled and supported.
- Identify potential tax risks related to state and local taxes and develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
Education, Experience & Requirements
- Education - Certification: Bachelor’s degree in finance/accounting, CPA (preferred)
- Experience - 10+ years tax and accounting experience in high growth multi state organization.
- Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, process improvement, General Ledger relating to administration of regulatory compliance around tax matters.
- Advanced working knowledge of Sales and Use tax, Nexus, Exemption Certificates and Audit requirements within a multi-state and international environment.
- Experience working with Avalara is a plus.
- Intermediate proficiency with MS Excel and working knowledge of MS Word and Outlook.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast paced, high transaction environment with strong attention to detail and multi-tasking skills.
- Strong problem solving and organizational skills.
- Interact effectively with customer teams and individuals inside and outside of the organization.
- Exhibit a strong customer service focus and urgency in responding to customer needs.
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet required regulatory deadlines.
