Job Description

A Material Handler I – Receiving employee is responsible for receiving, inspecting, documenting, and moving incoming materials to ensure inventory accuracy and efficient warehouse operations.

Shift times:
Monday - Friday
9:00 AM to 5:30 PM

 

Job Summary:
The Material Handler I – Receiving is responsible for unloading, inspecting, verifying, and processing incoming shipments. This position ensures materials are received accurately, stored properly, and entered into the inventory system while maintaining a safe and organized work environment.
 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive and unload incoming shipments using manual or powered material handling equipment.
  • Verify received materials against packing slips, purchase orders, and shipping documents.
  • Inspect incoming goods for damage, shortages, or discrepancies and report issues promptly.
  • Accurately record receipts in the warehouse management system (WMS) or ERP system.
  • Label, sort, and stage materials for storage or distribution.
  • Store inventory in designated warehouse locations following established procedures.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with cycle counts and physical inventories.
  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, and other warehouse equipment as authorized.
  • Keep receiving and storage areas clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
  • Follow all company policies, OSHA regulations, and safe material handling practices.
  • Communicate with purchasing, quality, and warehouse teams regarding receiving issues.
  • Perform other warehouse duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous warehouse or receiving experience preferred but not required.
  • Basic computer and data entry skills.
  • Ability to read shipping documents and follow written instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Stand, walk, bend, reach, and stoop for extended periods.
  • Ability to operate warehouse equipment safely.
  • Work in varying warehouse temperatures and environments.

Preferred Skills:

  • Forklift certification (or ability to obtain certification).
  • Experience with barcode scanners and warehouse management systems.
  • Basic inventory control knowledge.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement practices.
     

This entry-level role is ideal for individuals beginning a career in warehouse operations and receiving, with opportunities to advance into inventory control, shipping, logistics, or warehouse leadership positions.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in California is $13.82–$20.73.
