Databases are critical to PJM's mission. The data housed in our databases are used to make decisions on a daily basis that ensure the safety, reliability and security of the bulk electric power system for more than 65 million people. We are seeking a forward-looking and technically savvy new team member that is passionate about developing new database solutions, and is enthusiastic about applying new ideas to real-world problems.
As a PJM Database Administrator you will support PJM's mission by:
Overseeing our database infrastructure to maximize uptime
Provide first-level support for business units to resolve issues related to database platforms
Implement PJM and regulatory industry standards for database security and performance
Setup and maintain database platforms and related products to ensure supportability
Collaborate with business units on the implementation of application functionality that requires database changes
Essential Functions:
Work with customers to provide acceptable data persistence solutions to business needs
Work in a team environment to ensure that databases are operational and compliant
Ensure needed operation and maintenance activities take place in a timely manner
Provide and implement suggestions on improving the operations of PJMs database platforms
Provide input on and drive execution of PJMs database technology strategy
Provide technology leadership in onboarding new database technologies and architectures
Characteristics & Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
0-5 years of experience working with any database technology as an administrator or power user
0-5 years of experience working in a fast paced technology & team focused environment
0-5 years of experience working in a Linux or Unix environment
Ability to produce high-quality work products with attention to detail
Ability to visualize and solve complex problems
Preferred:
MBA, Business Administration
At least 4 years of experience with software development, integrating complex systems with database technology, and working with Oracle, SQL Server or MongoDB databases
Experience with PJM operations, markets, and planning functions
Experience in developing applications using Oracle PL/SQL
