13Desktop & MI Framework Architect
The person undertaking this role will be responsible for defining, designing, and implementing a reusable frontend container / design guidance and governance across Market Intelligence and using this framework to implement a new “S&P Risk” desktop to deliver our Credit, Market and Enterprise Risk solutions across the C&RS Desktop estate
The responsibilities of the role will include the following requirements:
Help define the team structure / requirements to implement the above.
Collaborate with product/app teams, SecDevOps, UX and QA to ensure the vision can be realized:
engage with senior leadership, architects, and engineers to design, document, and evangelize the frontend architecture and common approach
be the subject matter expert on frontend enterprise architecture, micro-frontends, interop and related patterns
champion the vision of a cohesive, unified, composable platform providing a consistent user experience and adhering to accessibility best practices
promote standards, foundations and reference implementations to ensure applications are firmly on the path to transition, in order to reduce duplication across divisions and products
challenge existing thinking and push boundaries
demonstrate the limits of what is possible using cutting edge frontend technologies
Build strong relationships with engineering and product/business stakeholders across Market Intelligence.
Liaise with product/app teams – working constructively in partnership but also being knowledgeable enough and willing to challenge technical decisions which do not fit into the vision.
Develop innovative technology approaches and solutions to solve business problems.
Promote the Inner Source model within Market Intelligence to facilitate code reuse, shared components, standards, and proven patterns. Advise on frontend build vs buy decisions as necessary.
Keep abreast of innovative ideas, open source and commercial frontend technologies in the HTML5, desktop container and interop spaces to use across the business.
Closely follow advancements in the capabilities of web browsers and JavaScript e.g. via W3C/HTML5, ECMA TC39, WICG, Project Fugu, WASM, etc.
Build awareness of customers’ needs from Market Intelligence applications and also the wider picture of how they relate to customers’ application estates e.g. in-house and/or other vendor container setups, any related constraints or opportunities.
Collaborate with InfoSec teams on frontend initiatives to continually improve the security posture.
Earn the respect of engineers at all levels through thoughtful engagement as a trusted advisor on frontend matters internally – always taking the opportunity to learn as well as to teach.
Develop, publish and evangelize appropriate internal guidelines e.g. best practice for interop security, etc.
Participate in architecture forums. Contribute to architecture reviews as required.
Education and experience
10+ years of experience in architecture/design in relevant technology disciplines, with a strong development background.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a technical field.
In-depth experience with web technologies such as HTML5, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Angular, Web Components, Node, npm, OIDC, etc. – along with native browser APIs, common testing frameworks and UI libraries.
Deep understanding of techniques for micro-frontends, window management, layout management, interop, FDC3, local browser messaging APIs, cloud-based messaging / streaming data (WebSockets), web workers, code gen, packaging/bundling, code splitting, lazy loading, module federation.
Experience with build tools, CI/CD pipelines, code quality technologies (e.g. ESLint, Mend, SonarQube).
Experience in investigating new and emerging technologies, and delivering presentations targeted at different audiences (senior leadership, stakeholders, product/business, engineering).
Ability to remain hands-on with a detailed understanding of relevant technologies – as comfortable cutting code as on the higher-level architectural matters such as oversight, reviewing proposals, evaluating solutions, performing due diligence, etc.
Experience of acting as a bridge between the interests of different internal teams / products.
Experience of working with development methodologies like Agile, Kanban, Lean.
Extensive experience of working on mission critical systems in large global enterprises, with an understanding the importance of NFRs such as performance, scalability, security, usability, maintainability, testability, along with relevant constraints related to aspects such as data management, multi-tenancy, etc.
Commercial awareness
Understanding of financial services industry economics, business benefits and commercial realities in delivering solutions from both supplier and customer perspectives.
Develop and maintain an awareness of which frontend technologies S&P Global’s competitors are using in their platforms to meet their customers’ needs.
Knowledge of desktop container technologies such as Here/OpenFin, interop.io, Electron, CEFSharp, WebView2, which may influence or inspire S&P Global’s micro-frontend container strategy.
Keen knowledge of trends in frontend technologies inside and outside of the financial services space.

Strong communication skills are essential – the role requires the ability to understand and communicate complex architectural concepts in written/diagrammatic and verbal form.
Collaboration and teamwork are crucial. This includes working with architects, engineers, product and other stakeholders across Market Intelligence.
