We are Seeking a Senior Principal Health & Benefits to join our growing team in San Diego, CA.
How You Will Contribute
- Lead client engagements for large and jumbo employers, serving as the executive sponsor and primary relationship manager
- Assume budget and revenue accountability for assigned client portfolio or business vertical; contribute to firm-level P&L through pricing strategy, cost oversight, and margin optimization
- Design and oversee the execution of complex, multi-year strategic plans aligned to clients' goals, financial objectives, and workforce strategy
- Mentor and coach internal teams, providing guidance on client service delivery, business acumen, and consulting excellence
- Maintain strong market presence and represent Piper Jordan at industry events, conferences, and networking forums
- Lead new business pursuits including RFP responses, pricing, presentations, and contract negotiation
- Collaborate with subject matter experts in areas such as pharmacy, population health, compliance, and leave of absence to deliver holistic solutions
- Oversee project delivery and team performance across multiple accounts, ensuring accuracy, quality, and timeliness
- Cultivate strong client and vendor relationships that foster trust, transparency, and measurable value
- Support the development and refinement of Piper Jordan’s consulting frameworks, tools, and intellectual capital
- Participate in financial forecasting, performance monitoring, and strategic planning to support company growth objectives
Skills & Experience to Be Successful
- BA/BS degree required; advanced degree (e.g., MPH, MBA) strongly preferred
- Minimum 15 years of progressive consulting experience in employee health & benefits, including a proven track record managing Fortune 1000 clients
- Demonstrated success leading complex consulting teams and growing a book of business
- Executive presence with polished communication, presentation, and influencing skills
- Mastery of health and welfare plan design, funding strategies, vendor negotiations, and compliance oversight
- Strong understanding of analytics, benchmarking, and ROI-based decision-making
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word)
- Ability and willingness to travel regularly for client meetings, conferences, and internal collaboration
- CEBS or similar certification
- Deep expertise in one or more specialty domains (e.g., pharmacy, population health, actuarial strategy, M&A consulting)
- Familiarity with emerging benefit solutions including digital health, navigation, and advocacy platforms
Pay Range
$200,000 - $275,000 Annual
The pay range provided above is made in good faith and based on our lowest and highest annual salary or hourly rate paid for the role and takes into account years of experience required, geography, and/or budget for the role.
