SSSD has an opening for a Mechanical Technician 3/4 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be in Redondo Beach, California.
Successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of diverse assembly techniques, knowledge of structural bonding techniques, including bonding/drilling of composite and metallic assemblies, Composite Layup and Trim. Ability to read engineering drawings and application of processes, procedures, and documents relative to Composite hardware commonly found in the aerospace industry. Candidate must have a comprehensive understanding of Geometric Positioning and Tolerancing usage and application. Performs a variety of duties assisting mechanical engineers in the development, assembly and integration of Space Vehicle mechanical components, assemblies, and systems as well as set up and test complete prototype or flight units and sub-assemblies under operational conditions.
Position requires 4- or 6-years minimum experience in the skills relative to the Composite Fabrication and Assembly field. This position may require 2nd shift support.
Individual must be able to demonstrate to Quality Assurance that work performed meets engineering drawing requirements. Works with chemicals. This position may be required to perform other duties as assigned. Must be willing to work any shift and extended work weeks.
Performs a variety of duties assisting mechanical engineers in the development of mechanical and electromechanical engineering designs, tests, fabrications, modifications, assemblies and components. Drafts detailed drawings for fabrication. Devices, fabricates, and assembles new or modified mechanical components or assemblies. Sets up and tests complete prototype units and subassemblies under operational conditions. Analyzes data and recommends modifications to components or test procedure to meet desired specifications.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
Basic Qualifications:
Mechanical Technician level 3: High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required, 4 years of applicable experience performing mechanical technician competencies.
Mechanical Technician level 4: High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required, 6 years of applicable experience performing mechanical technician competencies.
US Citizenship required
Candidate must be able to acquire, and maintain, at least ONE of the following active U.S. Government security clearances: Department of Defense Top Secret level with a background investigation date within 6 years OR SCI Access with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within 5 years OR Department of Energy Q clearance with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within 5 years.
Four or Six years of experience performing Composite technician competencies
Willing to work any shift and cover extended work weeks as required
Hands-on knowledge and experience with the use of a variety of hand tools and mechanical equipment
Preferred Qualifications:
AA degree or other two-year technical degree
Demonstrate technical knowledge in Composite manufacturing operations and procedures as it pertains to layup, Trim/Drill, mechanical fabrication and assembly, with a high attention to detail.
Experience working with complex engineering drawings, process specification, and work order instructions.
Experience working in clean room environments.
Proficient in use of precision measuring instruments, hand tools, drills, torque wrenches, etc.
Minimum 4 or 6 years of experience with Composite layup and trim using materials commonly found in aerospace environments.
