Registered Nurse After-Hours On-Call - Hospice

Branch: Topeka, KS | Full Time | Schedule 7 On 7 Off overnights 5pm - 8am

Your Role as an After-Hours On-Call Hospice RN

  • Patient Assessment: Evaluate the physical, emotional, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of hospice patients during after-hours situations.
  • Care Plan Implementation: Execute individualized care plans, providing interventions that align with hospice philosophy and physician orders.
  • Symptom Management: Address pain and symptom concerns promptly to ensure patient comfort.
  • Effective Communication: Communicate significant changes in patient conditions to the interdisciplinary team, physicians, and caregivers.
  • Family Support: Provide empathetic support and education to patients’ families, helping them navigate end-of-life care.
  • Critical Thinking: Recognize and respond to deviations from expected conditions, ensuring the best possible outcomes for patients.
  • Collaboration: Partner with the interdisciplinary hospice team to ensure seamless, compassionate care during after-hours coverage.

What You’ll Need

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited Certificate, Diploma, Associate, or Baccalaureate School of Nursing.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year in a clinical care setting (Hospice or Home Health experience strongly preferred).
  • Licensure: Current state RN license.
  • Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills with a focus on compassion and professionalism.
  • Travel: Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and the ability to travel within the coverage area (approximately 50%).
