What you'll do...

About the Role:
We’re seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the design and evolution of our backend systems built on Node.js, Federated GraphQL, and cloud-native microservices. In this role, you’ll act as a technical leader, setting direction for cross-functional teams, solving complex architectural problems, and ensuring scalability, reliability, and developer efficiency across the platform.

Key Responsibilities:

• Drive architectural decisions and long-term technical strategy for GraphQL APIs and microservices.
• Lead the development and scaling of Federated GraphQL services using Apollo Federation or similar frameworks.
• Guide teams in building robust, reusable, and well-documented services in Node.js.
• Define and enforce engineering best practices in code quality, CI/CD, observability, and system resilience.
• Partner with product, platform, and infrastructure teams to align technical solutions with business goals.
• Mentor and coach senior and mid-level engineers, fostering a culture of excellence and growth.

Qualifications:

• 9+ years of engineering experience, with at least 3+ years in Node.js, GraphQL and React .
• Proven track record architecting and deploying microservices at scale in a production cloud environment (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Strong understanding of system design, distributed systems, caching strategies, and performance tuning.
• Experience with containers (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes), and observability tooling (e.g., Prometheus, OpenTelemetry).
• Ability to influence and drive consensus across engineering, product, and leadership teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in TypeScript and monorepo tooling (e.g., Nx, Turborepo).
• Background in high-traffic, mission-critical systems such as eCommerce or SaaS platforms.
• Contributions to open source or experience presenting at tech forums is a plus.

The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00-$286,000.00
