  • The Rates Sales business is part of MUFG Securities EMEA, the securities trading division of MUFG and supports the Rates Trading and Financing desks in London, Tokyo and New York in providing appropriate rates products to the global Financial Institution (FI) client base. Products offered include government bonds, supranational bonds, corporate bonds, interest rate swaps, cross currency swaps, inflation linked bonds and their derivatives, volatility products (swaptions, caps and floors) structured rates products, repo, reverse repo, cross currency repo, securities borrowing and lending and securities financing.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE 

  • You will have accountability for the following named department: Rates Sales EMEA, with authority from, and reporting to, the Head of Rates Sales EMEA.
  • You will work to support the functions of the Rates Sales business and its team members in their daily roles and to develop your own understanding of the business.
  • In due course you will build your own client relationships directly and work to deliver appropriate services and products to those clients directly.
  • You will support the sales team in the entire client lifecycle management process (onboarding, KYC, legal, credit risk, conducting transactions, booking trades).
  • You will be responsible for supporting the sales team in contributing to the successful execution of departmental strategy - in line with the regional business objectives, international business objectives and entity requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1) Planning, Strategy Development and Execution [Sales]

  • responsible and accountable for ensuring that your day-to-day activities are aligned to the overall departmental business strategy for your product / domain – this includes meeting/exceeding the official minimum financial and non-financial targets
  • (i) understand your responsibilities and duties applicable to your role, (ii) comply with the Firm’s policies and procedures and (iii) conduct yourself in a way which is commensurate with the Firm’s values;
  • Responsible and accountable for managing and monitoring your portfolio of clients and associated risks and controls to control the Firm’s exposure within predefined limits prescribed by Risk Management and established by the Firm’s Risk Management Committee, and supporting the department to ensure that it operates within the Firm’s defined risk appetite
  • responsible for conducting business in line with internal policies and procedures as well as regulatory requirements
  • responsible for maintaining and enhancing good working relationships between the relevant Rates Sales department and stakeholders, including business and control / infrastructure teams globally

2) Risk Management

As a member of the Rates Sales team (which is part of Institutional Investor Sales) you will be responsible for identifying, monitoring and taking actions (including escalations where applicable) further to your delegated authority in respect of, the risk being run across your products and domain. You will be:

  • responsible for the management of all relevant risks (including, but not limited to, credit, operational, conduct risks applicable to your product/domain) within the Firm’s risk appetite;
  • responsible for ensuring that you conduct business in line with regulatory requirements (including but not limited to Volcker, EMIR and MIFID).
  • responsible and accountable for the escalation of issues identified in the ordinary course of your business. This includes, but is not limited to, issues relating to risk management, regulatory risk, compliance and operational risks.
  • responsible for protecting and enhancing the Firm’s, and the Group’s, reputation in all activities
  • be responsible and accountable for adherence to the MUFG Securities International Sales & Trading Client Ownership Charter

3) Franchise Development (where applicable)

  • responsible for delivering and growing a sustainable, client-focused, flow-oriented business in line with client strategy,
  • responsible for maximising profitability from leveraging and enhancing the Group’s customer franchise,
  • responsible and accountable for reacting to client enquiries in a risk-sensitive manner, ensuring proposed solutions are appropriate for the client and meet the requirements of best execution,
  • responsible for clearly explaining the risks and rewards of our products to our clients, and providing our clients with all the information they need to make an informed judgement about transactions,
  • responsible for working in partnership with Sales, Trading and Research in MUFG Securities International to deliver products that meet the needs of our clients,
  • responsible for working in partnership with other parts of the Group to deliver franchise and business growth.

4) Controls and Compliance

You are responsible for ensuring the Company’s compliance with internal risk and compliance requirements, controls and procedures, including, but not limited to:

  • personally following all relevant policies and procedures
  • supporting other team members and colleagues in ensuring all relevant policies and procedures are followed

5) Relationship with other functions and stakeholders

  • Maintain and enhance good working relationships with stakeholders, across the region and globally to share best practices, provide support and develop effective local policies and procedures appropriate to the Company, and working in support of the One MUFG and overall Group strategy.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • For an analyst level role, 6M to 2Y of experience within banking, ideally within a role in, or connected to, market sales and trading businesses or their support functions – does not necessarily need to be directly within the rates product world – the firm will provide training in the underlying products and workflow

  • For an associate level role, 2Y+ of experience within investment banking – ideally within a role in, or connected to market sales and trading businesses or their support functions - does not necessarily need to be directly within the rates product world – the firm will provide training in the underlying products and workflow

PERFORMANCE AND DUTIES

The role holder will be assessed in accordance with their employing entity’s performance framework and process with relevant input obtained from the dual hatting entity as relevant.

As duties and responsibilities change, the job description will be reviewed and amended in consultation with the role holder. The role holder will carry out other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the role as requested by their line manager or Department Head.

MANAGING CONFLICTS OF INTEREST

  • The role holder will have responsibilities for both MUFG Bank and MUFG Securities EMEA plc.
  • The role holder will be required to perform their duties and responsibilities on an entity neutral basis, without favour.
  • The role holder is required to follow regulatory requirements applicable to ensure each business is appropriately supported and to maintain the legal entity integrity of each of MUFG Bank and MUFG Securities.
  • Working terms are dictated by functional mandates, the terms of the Dual-Hat Arrangement Agreement in place between MUFG Bank and MUFG Securities EMEA plc and any other relevant agreements entered into between MUFG Bank and MUFG Securities EMEA plc.
  • The role holder will have responsibility for identifying and resolving where there may be a difference or conflict in needs between MUFG Bank and MUFG Securities EMEA plc, escalating to their manager where required.
