One of our most challenging new fields is Microelectronics Design and Applications (MDA), which combines the unique properties of superconductivity and quantum mechanics to develop radical new energy-efficient computing systems. MDA is seeking a Principal/Sr. Principal Systems Engineer with demonstrated ability to lead development of new technologies to support our innovative MDA team in support of emerging supercomputing technologies.
What You’ll Get to Do:
- Plan and execute the program lifecycle, including major program milestones / reviews (e.g., SRR, SFR, SDR, PDR, CDR, SVR, TRR, peer reviews, Pre-test reviews, Post Test Reviews, Pre-Ship reviews, Etc.)
- Ensure system technical compliance with the program Statement of Work (SOW) and system requirements.
- Manage the vertical and horizontal technical integration throughout the product teams and program life cycle, collaborating across the MDA portfolio of programs.
- Collect, manage, and report the program metrics and Technical Performance Measures (TPMs).
- Manage risk and opportunity and the production of core engineering work products and track the work products and associated program dependencies in the program schedule.
- Coordinate between the System Architect, Chief Engineer, Product Team Lead(s), program manager, and customer to ensure the integrity and executability of the program technical baseline.
This position is contingent on clearance.
This position will serve on-site in Linthicum / Annapolis Junction, MD.
This position can be filled at the Principal or Sr. Principal level. Qualifications for each level below.
Basic Qualifications for Principal Systems Engineer:
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 5 years of experience, a Master's degree in a STEM discipline with 3 years of experience, or a PhD in a STEM discipline with 0 years of experience.
- Demonstrated Model Based Systems Engineering (SysML) experience.
- Demonstrated experience with Systems Development Lifecycle with a focus on SRR to CDR.
- Demonstrated Requirements Management from Elicitation to Verification.
- Demonstrated Backlog Planning and Management.
- Experience in systems development, integration, and test.
- This position requires the applicant to be a U.S. citizen.
- Active DoD TS/SCI with poly security per clearance business requirements.
Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal Systems Engineer:
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 8 years of experience, a Master's degree in a STEM discipline with 6 years of experience, or a PhD in a STEM discipline with 3 years of experience.
- Demonstrated Model Based Systems Engineering (SysML) experience.
- Demonstrated experience with Systems Development Lifecycle with a focus on SRR to CDR.
- Demonstrated Requirements Management from Elicitation to Verification.
- Demonstrated Backlog Planning and Management.
- Experience in systems development, integration, and test.
- This position requires the applicant to be a U.S. citizen.
- Active DoD TS/SCI with poly security per clearance business requirements.
Preferred Qualifications for Principal / Sr. Principal Systems Engineer:
- Knowledge of Systems Engineering processing from generation of an Integrated Master Plan (IMP) to Work Product Breakdown into Integrated Master Schedules (IMS) for the development of complex systems of systems.
- Risk and Opportunity Management experience.
- Demonstrated Experience with Systems Development Lifecycle, Focus on SRR to CDR.
- Master’s degree or PhD in STEM or technical management.
- Understanding of DoD systems engineering requirements (UAF).
- Multi-Disciplinary Engineering exposure (Software, Hardware, Electrical) and strong ability to communicate cross functionally.

Salary Range: $102,400.00 - $160,900.00Salary Range 2: $127,000.00 - $199,600.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
