Job Description:

Under general supervision, independently performs Environmental Health & Safety and HR Employee Relations work of moderate complexity or difficulty. Conducts inspections and audits and recognizes hazards. Prepares solutions to environmental or safety concerns. Keeps records of programs as required by law and internal procedures. Coordinates training for safety and health matters and accident prevention. Applies practical knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience. May influence others within the job area through explanation of facts, policies, and practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct safety inspections to ensure compliance with Greif safety standards, CSA, OSHA, NFPA, and local safety regulations and standards.
  • Gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Implement and enforce Greif safety protocol and programs.
  • Develop and implement local safety protocols and programs as needed.
  • Conduct incident investigations, analyze information, and draw conclusions.
  • Manage the new hire onboarding process to include safety & quality.
  • Lead local recruitment, onboarding, and retention processes for hourly personnel.
  • Coach and counsel employees and front-line leaders on employee relation matters, performance management and conflict resolution.
  • Communicate and educate colleagues and site leaders on Greif policies pertaining to Human Resources, compensation, and benefits.
  • Collect, analyze, and create action plans from various employee data (i.e., turnover, absenteeism, engagement scoring).
  • Ensure compliance to regulatory standards and Greif policies.
  • Oversee employee orientation and training.
  • Act as Liaison between colleagues and management.
  • Manage and address colleague concerns.
  • Identify and facilitate site training initiatives.


Education and Experience

  • Typically possesses a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) and 2-5 years of relevant experience in EH&S within a manufacturing environment or HR Operations. 


Knowledge and Skills

  • Experience in developing and implementing EH&S & HR best practices procedures.
  • Ability to identify unsafe work practices and/or able to recognize processes subject to safety/environmental regulations.
  • Solid knowledge of relevant safety regulations.
  • Experience in conflict resolution and mediation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Experience in employee engagement and retention strategies.
  • Ability to analyze data and provide insights for improvement.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to train and coach colleagues on EH&S & HR policy and regulations issues.
  • Solid interpersonal and communication skills.
