Introduction

We are seeking an engaged and fast-learning working student in our GF EMEA application engineering team. GF Application Engineers support the design process of GF customers from design start to tape-out ensuring that customers can design efficiently high-quality volume products to GF technologies. 

Your Job

The successful candidate has already acquired some knowledge and hands-on experience in digital VLSI design, understanding of digital design approaches, building blocks like logic cell libraries and memories, back-end digital design algorithms and software tools such as synthesis, place and route, static timing analysis, physical design verification (DRC, LVS). In an ideal case, the successful candidate is acquainted with industry standard EDA software tools from vendors like Synopsys, Cadence, or SIEMENS. 

This role provides an opportunity to learn about design enablement and customer support in a foundry context. Specifically, the role involves developing demonstrator designs that serve design metric collection and benchmarking helping customers to select optimal technology elements. 

In addition, this role involves automation of benchmarking sweeps, data collection and analysis automation, documentation and some amount of technical writing. 

 

Required Qualifications

  • Studying electrical engineering, computer science or related fields, ideally with completed course on VLSI design, and some knowledge of Digital back-end design RTL to GDS including physical and electrical design verification. 

  • Intermediate skills in programming using languages like TCL, Python, PERL, ability to understand and extend or maintain existing script sets.

  • Hands-on UNIX operating system and basic shell commands. Build automation (‘make’) knowledge is a pro. 

  • Skills in data analysis using spreadsheets, ideally some Python based data analytics frameworks or PowerBI 

  • Documentation and technical writing skills in English. 

  • Self-driven personality, autonomy  in developing solutions and requesting mentor support.

Period

  • The position is available for a duration of at least 12 months.

  • Working hours: a maximum of 20 hours/week during the semester and a maximum of 40 hours/week during semester holiday
