Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced lawyer to join our team. This role will be responsible for partnering with business leaders across PayPal to support initiatives across PayPal’s various digital wallet products, as well as supporting other product experiences as needed on PayPal's product roadmap and priorities. This job uses knowledge and direction to influence decisions as an advisor or counsel, with significant impact on the success of PayPal operations.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic legal advice and support to senior management, influencing business strategy an decision making.
  • Anticipate regulatory and legal risks, and proactively design strategies to manage them.
  • Perform legal and regulatory compliance risk assessments, propose creative solutions where applicable, and help advance business objectives.
  • Manage escalations, collaborate across other teams and develop solutions to enable business partners to achieve their goals.
  • Develop a strong rapport and working relationship with business counterparts across the enterprise to help drive the delivery of effective legal services.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, leading the adoption of cutting-edge legal technologies and best practices.
  • Manage legal risks and safeguard PayPal's legal interests, developing forward-looking risk management strategies.
  • Provide key inputs as an industry leader and expert, staying ahead of legal trends and influencing industry standards.

Expected Qualifications:

  • 10+ years relevant experience and a Juris doctorate degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Juris Doctor from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association
  • Admitted to, and in good standing with, a state bar
  • 10+ years of legal experience preferably with an in-house position advising on consumer product legal matters. 2+ years of experience in advising product professionals in the consumer financial services/fintech space
  • Expertise in risk management, compliance, and regulatory frameworks as they relate to consumers using our shopping and checkout products
  • Skilled at identifying issues, providing risk-based recommendations, and contributing to strategic business conversations in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience navigating complex legal issues around consumer protection, payments and digital wallets
  • Extensive knowledge of regulations and industry guidelines applicable to digital wallets and fintech, including federal and state UDAAP standards, state money transmission laws, FTC and CFPB guidelines, TCPA, Reg. E, GLBA, BSA, and CAN-SPAM
  • Experience building cross-functional relationships and communication styles that resonate with business teams to launch products responsibly
  • Demonstrated strong sense of ownership and ability to exercise sound judgment in ambiguous situations

Additional compensation for this role may include an annual performance bonus, equity, or other incentive compensation, as applicable.
