- Hours: Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm
What you will need:
· License: None
· Education: Bachelor Degree in Biology, Chemistry or Medical Laboratory Sciences.
· Certification: MLS (ASCP)CM required
· Experience: 5+ years of laboratory testing as an MLS preferred. 3+ years Teaching/training of MLS/MLT students within the laboratory. Formal lecture teaching in a classroom setting preferred.
· Skills: Knowledge of education and administration as well as current accreditation/certification procedures. A high degree of initiative, awareness and sensitivity to laboratory and institutional goals. Comprehensive knowledge of laboratory procedures. Knowledge of curriculum planning and teaching skills. Supervisory and organizational abilities. Objective decision making . Ability to establish rapport with students, faculty, and laboratory personnel. Ability to counsel students personally and professionally and to discern potential problems with students. Demonstrated leadership skills.
What you will do:
- Recruit and select students for the program.
- Establishes schedule for and conducts new student orientation.
- Establishes schedules for basic laboratory courses, clinical rotations and phlebotomy education.
- Ensures mandated safety training for all students.
- Maintains a library and collection of teaching aids.
- Plans and conducts graduation activities.
- Implements and reviews program goals, course content and outlines, instructional objectives, student evaluation processes, and all activities relating to the program.
- Reviews returned evaluations from graduates and their employers, makes necessary and feasible changes in curriculum/program.
- Ensures that the Medical Laboratory Science Program complies with NAACLS standards
- Co-Chairs on-site clinical faculty meetings and annual performance evaluation workshops
- Designs the rotation curriculum, including the schedule, learning objectives and study questions, quizzes and performance evaluations
- Ensure appropriate content is delivered by supplying guest lecturers and residents with the learning objectives and possibly the exam questions when appropriate
- Coordinates the movement of each student through the various workstations in cooperation with the scheduling supervisor.
- Evaluates student's academic and technical performance and grade exams.
- Counsels students regarding personal matters, academic policies and professional standards.
- Attend and participate in MLS faculty meetings. Communicates with program director as appropriate.
- Coordinate and teach pathology residents as determined by laboratory director.
Organize laboratory in-service training and education programs as determined by lab manager.
