The Medical Technologist Senior (POCT) monitors performance of Point-of-Care testing in coordination with laboratory and patient care supervisors, managers, and other leaders to ensure the delivery of quality laboratory care that is in compliance with all applicable accreditation requirements. Provides oversite and review of POCT testing and personnel performance and quality assurance of de-centralized laboratory testing performed at the bedside and in specialized patient care facilities. Provides training of new employees and students as applicable, including monitoring testing and standards of quality provided. Performs CLIA technical consultant delegated Competency Assessor responsibilities.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:      
Certified as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) by the National Credentialing Agency (NCA) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) National Certifying Agency or equivalent ASCP Specialty or Categorical certification.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment:     
Current Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) by the National Credentialing Agency (NCA) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) National Certifying Agency or equivalent ASCP Specialty or Categorical certification.

Experience REQUIRED:     
Minimum of three (3) years of clinical work experience as a Medical Technologist/MLS/CLS

Experience PREFERRED:   
Point-of-Care Testing experience highly preferred

Education/training REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Lab Science (BSCLS) from an accredited program OR a Bachelor’s Degree in a Biological Science* in addition to graduation from an NAACLS-accredited CLS/MT certificate program OR Bachelor’s Degree in a Biological Science with 8 or more years of on the job training in a hospital health care environment in a specific lab discipline performing high complexity testing in blood banking, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology and clinical microscopy (generalist certification required).

Education/training PREFERRED:
Master’s Degree in Clinical Lab Science (MSCLS) from an accredited program

Independent action(s) required:
Independently oversees and monitors Point-of-care procedures following standard operating procedures and regulatory requirements.

Evaluates new procedures and instrumentation.

Oversees quality control and performance of quality assurance activities.

Independently provides POCT training and competency assessment responsibilities to POCT approved users

Resolution of problems in testing and quality control


Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable):         
The MT Sr. POCT MT will assume the responsibilities of supervisor in his/her absence (weekends, holidays. etc.).
