Position Purpose: Supports optimal purchasing for an Omni-channel environment by effectively employing systems, tools (BY Fulfillment and SAP), process, and standardized reporting; as well as strategic input from cross-functional partners in support of the sales forecasts. This requires managing: receipts within budgets, service levels by profile and vendor relations regarding constraints/deadlines. Provides analytical insight as the means of supporting the successful implementation of L.L.Bean's and Inventory Management's strategic objectives. This role requires operating independently with oversight.

About the role:

  • Demonstrates understanding and appropriate use of BY Fulfillment & SAP for buying. Manages a part of the business, employing approved processes, controls and reporting with oversight of Sr. or Lead Buyer.

  • Supports and understands the buying process pre-season and in-season. Helps support Sr./Lead Buyers in the alignment of buy strategies to meet receipt targets and inventory levels.

  • Participates successfully in weekly mtgs. to communicate buy/vendor production requirements to cross-functional partners as inputs to initial/chase buys. Reviews trends and metrics to meet deliverables. Supports department leadership and collaboration with cross-functional team. Develops an understanding of the end to end process as it relates to the buying process. Prioritizes and implements the day-to-day execution of assigned tasks and responsibilities.

  • Drives the identification of data patterns and relationships to break through a high level of data. Maintains an objective view of the findings, formulates conclusions and summarizes clearly.

  • Supports the Sustain Team and continuous improvement efforts; utilizes department Super Users routinely.

  • Developing Vendor negotiation skills for improved options to meet goals and metrics. May Communicate Postpone/Cancels with vendor to meet inventory levels under the direction of Sr/Lead/Inv. Mgr.

  • Supports existing Buy Strategies such as: BTI, Make and Hold, CR and DS to improve inventory and achieve goals.

  • Assists in supporting the vision and strategic initiatives. Knowledgeable of buying approaches for assigned categories, as well as a developing awareness of the forecasting/allocation functions as they relate to the end-to-end, omni-channel process.

  • Reviews category performance against metrics weekly; such as Serviceable Demand %,  and New Store Fill Rate %’s. Proactively communicates when performance is not meeting goals. Initiates the necessary actions for their specific area of responsibility with support of Sr./Lead Buyer

  • Builds partnerships with Forecasters, Merchants, Sourcing, ISS, and Retail to ensure strategic efforts are aligned with demand targets and inventory goals.

  • Develops emerging skills for communicating across the organization. Begins to learn how to influence others, particularly around assortment planning.

  • Education Level: 4-Year Bachelors Degree

  • English Level: C1 (Advanced)
