Position Summary

We are looking for a Cost Engineer with strong expertise in OEM/commercial component costing and advanced data analysis. This role will primarily support Commodity Leaders in cost-reduction initiatives by performing technical comparisons, identifying alternate makes/brands, evaluating equivalent parts, and conducting detailed spend and commodity analyses. The candidate should also have working knowledge of should-costing for mechanical components.

Key Responsibilities

1. OEM / Commercial Component Costing & Analysis (Primary Focus)

  • Analyze cost structures for OEM/commercial/catalog components such as bearings, gearboxes, motors, pneumatics, linear motion products, hydraulics, fasteners, seals, valves, etc.
  • Conduct technical comparisons to identify alternate brands or equivalent parts suitable for cost reduction.
  • Validate specifications, performance parameters, and compatibility for alternate makes.
  • Support commodity categorization (gearboxes, bearings, pneumatics, motors, etc.) for negotiation and sourcing strategy.

2. Commodity Support & Cost-Reduction Projects

  • Work closely with Commodity Leaders to identify savings opportunities.
  • Perform spend analysis, supplier performance comparison, and commodity price benchmarking.
  • Develop commodity-level dashboards, reports, and insights to support sourcing decisions.
  • Assist in supplier consolidation, alternate sourcing, and re-quoting activities.

3. Cost Engineering (Secondary Focus)

  • Perform should-costing for fabricated, machined, and sheet-metal components as needed.
  • Review technical drawings and BOMs to assess cost impact and validate supplier estimates.
  • Identify process cost drivers and potential VA/VE opportunities.

4. Data Analytics & Reporting

  • Build structured databases for OEM/commercial parts and commodity groupings.
  • Generate analytical reports on spend trends, pricing variations, and supplier comparisons.
  • Use data to support negotiation strategies and sourcing decisions.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong experience in OEM/commercial component costing and technical comparison.
  • Knowledge of mechanical commodities (motors, gearboxes, bearings, pneumatics, hydraulics, sensors, fasteners, etc.).
  • Experience in spend analysis, supplier comparison, and cost-reduction analytics.
  • Good knowledge of should-costing methods for mechanical components.
  • Strong analytical, data-driven thinking; proficiency in Excel (Power BI is a plus).
  • Ability to understand specifications and compare alternate products.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional coordination skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Min 7 years of Experience.
  • Background in procurement, commodity management, or supplier costing.
  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, XA).
  • Exposure to VA/VE or design-to-cost projects.
