We are currently seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to report into the General Counsel.

This is a rare opportunity to join the Legal team within a global medical device company covering our South Pacific region – Australia and New Zealand.

The role:

  • Ensure that Stryker South Pacific achieves its strategic and operational goals within the bounds of international, national, and local laws and regulations as well as industry specific corporate governance and compliance guidelines

  • Assist with day to day management of legal matters with a focus on contract drafting for all areas of the business

Responsibilities:

  • Draft, review, negotiate and advise on various types of contracts including, those with a health, procurement and technology focus (e.g. general commercial, services and consultancy agreements, sales, distribution agreements, clinical research, data and R&D, IP and IT agreements including, licences and SaaS)

  • Provide advice on laws, rules, regulations, and Stryker policies related to Stryker's business including, IP, ICT, privacy, health and government (e.g. FOI)

  • Lead, advise on and drive strategic initiatives and projects

  • Management of external legal and budgets

  • Mentoring and training other lawyers in the team

  • Continuous improvement of the legal operations and practice (e.g. creating playbooks, training the business)

  • Management reporting

Critical Requirements (eg: skills, experience, qualifications):

  • Admitted to practice law in Australia

  • Minimum 8+ years post admission experience, life sciences or technology experience is an advantage

  • Knowledge of TGA and health department regulations and ways of working would be an advantage

  • Strong contract drafting, negotiation and contract review/analysis experience

  • Ability to build relationships with key stakeholders and act as the legal business partner for the business

  • Possesses excellent organizational skills and can manage numerous projects and conflicting demands in a fast-paced environment

  • Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and influence at all levels, including senior executive level, of corporate organization

  • Ability to synthesise complex concepts into digestible concise deliverable targeted to the audience

  • Demonstrates excellent judgement and professional demeanor

  • Demonstrates ability to collaborate with and lead project efforts with colleagues in a global, matrixed, organisation

  • Works well independently and in a team

  • Experience providing timely legal advice in a highly regulated environment, preferred

  • Demonstrates and drives a commitment to integrity and accountability

  • Technology and digital adept

  • Ability to juggle competing priorities in dynamic fast paced environment
