We’re hiring for a hybrid role. You’ll work on-site with your team several days each week (typically 2–3), with the specific days set by your manager. Because regular in-person collaboration is central to this job, we look for candidates who live within about 50 miles of the office.

About the role:
At Everfox, we protect the world’s most critical data and systems in highly regulated, mission‑critical environments. The Assistant Controller serves as a key financial leader responsible for ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and compliance of Everfox’s financial reporting and accounting operations.

This role oversees technical accounting, financial reporting, and core operational accounting processes, ensuring adherence to U.S. GAAP while supporting a fast‑paced, evolving business environment. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in complex accounting areas, exceptional analytical capabilities, and an active CPA license.

Herndon, VA (Hybrid, 2-3 days per week)

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting
• Lead the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Research, interpret, and apply authoritative accounting guidance (ASC, GAAP) to complex or non‑routine transactions.
• Oversee revenue recognition (ASC 606), stock‑based compensation (ASC 718), lease accounting (ASC 842), long‑lived assets, impairment analyses, and general ledger operations.
• Maintain and update accounting policies, technical accounting memos, and supporting documentation.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to assess accounting implications of contracts, compensation programs, leases, and new business initiatives.

Operational Accounting & Close Management
• Oversee month‑end and quarter‑end close processes to ensure timely, accurate, and complete financial results.
• Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analyses.
• Strengthen internal controls and ensure compliance with SOX or equivalent regulatory frameworks.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives to streamline processes, enhance automation, and improve accounting operational efficiency.

Audit, Compliance & Risk Management
• Serve as primary liaison with external auditors during interim and annual audit cycles.
• Prepare audit schedules, respond to auditor requests, and ensure timely resolution of findings.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, reporting, and corporate requirements.
• Support internal risk‑management activities through strengthened controls and accurate financial insights.

Cross‑Functional Leadership & Collaboration
• Supervise and develop accounting team members, fostering a culture of technical excellence and accountability.
• Partner with Finance, IT, and operational teams to enhance business alignment, data integrity, and reporting accuracy.
• Support system upgrades, ERP optimization, and process automation initiatives to modernize financial operations.
• Champion a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the Accounting organization.

Key Knowledge and Skills

• Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and relevant accounting standards; demonstrated ability to document, communicate, and operationalize technical accounting conclusions.
• Deep experience across technical accounting, financial reporting, revenue recognition, general ledger operations, stock compensation accounting, and audits.
• Experience mentoring or leading accounting teams; exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Public accounting background (Big 4 or national firm) and experience in technology, SaaS, or government contracting environments are beneficial.
• Proficiency with ERP systems, financial reporting tools, and data/process automation; experience supporting audits, system implementations, or finance transformation initiatives.

Key Education Requirements

• Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; advanced degree preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience (including leadership of senior accounting areas).

A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is:

$183,200.00-236,500.00 USD

The actual salary offered may vary within the range based on a candidates' unique experience, locale, and business needs. In addition to a base salary and bonus plans, Everfox offers a generous benefits package including flexible PTO, a 401k match, and contribution to healthcare coverages.
