Summary of Duties

As an Operations Support you will:

  • You will be the first person of contact in most local offices for Oregonians and provide a welcoming environment for families while maintaining the front desk and providing financial desk responsibilities.

  • Your work will be through a trauma-informed lens to provide the best care.

  • You will support the office's infrastructure by supporting day-to-day operations and assisting families.

  •  You will work directly with Oregonians to help the online Oregon Eligibility system for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), and Employment Related Day Care (ERDC), and Medicaid by phone or/and in person to resolve any questions or concerns

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years of experience working in a reception area or call center either interviewing to obtain information or providing customer service. This experience must have involved a high volume of work (e.g., data entry, assuring information on applications is complete and accurate, completing necessary documents, etc.); OR

  • An associate degree in Behavioral Science, Social Science or a closely related field AND six months of experience working in a busy reception area or call center either interviewing to obtain information or providing customer service; OR

  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience relative to the class concept.

  • Skilled in de-escalating high-stress or volatile situations by recognizing behavioral cues, maintaining a calm and respectful presence, and applying trauma-informed communication tailored to individual needs

  • Skilled in conveying complex information clearly and professionally, both verbally and in written form, to clients, team members, and external agencies, supporting case documentation, service delivery, and informed client decision-making.

  • Experience adjusting workflows, priorities, or approaches in response to new information or organizational direction.

  • Demonstrates adaptability and positivity in the face of change, including new processes, technologies, or organizational priorities.

  • Proficient experience with digital tools, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, email systems, and online search tools.

  • Demonstrated willingness to uphold core values, embracing anti-racism and applying principles of diversity, equity and inclusion.

Preference will be given to candidates that are bilingual in Arabic and English.

Working Conditions

  • Your work schedule will be 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Friday.

  • Work is conducted in-office and in-person at our Beaverton ODHS office.

  • May require sitting at a terminal or telephone for prolonged periods of the workday.

  • You will interact with a wide range of people including some who have experienced trauma and may be experiencing emotional and/or financial distress.

  • Consistent attendance is essential.

  • Flexibility/adaptability is essential due to a changing environment with regular policy, program, and technical adjustments.

Background Checks and Requirements

  • The Oregon Department of Human Services does not offer visa sponsorship. Within three days of hire, you will be required to complete the US Department of Homeland Security’s I-9 form confirming authorization to work in the United States. ODHS will use E-Verify to confirm that you are authorized to work in the United States.

  • Driver Record Screening: As part of the pre-employment background check, applicants may be asked to complete a driving record review.
