Job Description Summary:

Under the direction of the KUMC IT Services (KITS) AVC/Deputy CIO, the Director of Enterprise IT Infrastructure is responsible for overseeing the planning, implementation, and maintenance of a diverse range of technical infrastructure and cloud solutions. The Director provides strategy and leadership in operations, planning and implementation of networking, server, storage, and voice technologies and ensures the technology needs of the organization are met. This role provides advice and counsel to the AVC/Deputy CIO.

The Director is responsible for the server, storage, networking, and voice infrastructure for the University of Kansas Medical Center.

Job Description:

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of the IT infrastructure, including backups, servers, networks, storage, voice, and data centers.

  • Supervise the Managers of Server & Storage Infrastructure, Network Infrastructure, and Voice Engineering and Planning.

  • Recruit, train, and develop a high-performing team.

  • Responsible for the strategic planning for the IT infrastructure team.

  • Develop and manage both the department’s short-term and long-term budget, ensuring cost-effective soluitons and adherence to financial constraints.

  • Ensure the reliability, performance, security and scalability of KUMC’s cloud and on-premises IT infrastructure. 

  • Coordinate with appropriate leadership and departments across KUMC and the health system to ensure seamless integration and support of IT infrastructure initiatives. 

  • Meet all MOE’s and SLA’s on a consistent basis.

  • Assure standardization and documentation of processes, policies, standard operating procedures and systems.

  • Work closely with KITS Directors and Associate Directors to identify opportunities to expand or improve services, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement. 

  • Implement best practices for IT infrastructure management, including capacity planning, backup and recovery procedures, and availability monitoring.

  • Utilize project management methodologies and tools to track progress and deliver successful outcomes. 

  • Ensure established change management procedures and communications protocols are followed. 

  • Provide after-hours escalation/problem response as necessary.

  • Represent KUMC and KUMC IT Services (KITS) in various UKHS, KUMC, KU, and state and national technology groups and organizations as necessary.

Required Qualifications


Education/Certification: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, telecommunications, engineering or other information technology related field.


Work Experience: 

  • 10 years of technical experience with advanced server, storage, networking or voice systems.

  • 5 years managerial experience leading an experienced, well-established team of engineers.

  • Strong background in IT infrastructure technologies, including servers, storage, networking, virtualization, voice, and cloud computing.

  • Experience with enterprise IT security and monitoring.


Preferred Qualifications


Education/Certification: 

  • Master’s Degree in computer science, telecommunications, engineering or other information technology related field


Work Experience: 

  • Knowledge of formalized IT processes (project management, change control, asset management) and/or CObIT/ITIL standards.

  • Higher education or healthcare experience.


Skills

  • Must be a highly detailed oriented individual with proven project management skills.

  • Ability to manage large enterprise-wide projects requiring coordination of many departments.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work well under stress, within defined timelines and on budget.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
