What you need to know about the role

The role is within the Big Data Developers group, where we work closely with data scientists on innovative AI models that address PayPal's business requirements across diverse domains, from essential fraud detection models to new generative models aimed at enhancing our processes and productivity. Many of the algorithms developed by the team are pioneering solutions at a large scale that the industry has not yet addressed, making the work extremely exciting and engaging for team members.

The team comprises Machine Learning engineers who work very closely with the Global Data Sciences (GDS) group. The joint work consists of developing PayPal’s Analytical infra and best-of-breed fraud detection, NLP, graph, clustering, and other Machine Learning algorithms using cutting-edge technologies.
You will join a versatile team of engineers who are passionate about everything related to data and algorithms. We care not only about what we do, but also about each other. In this role, you will directly impact the amount of prevented loss for the company and its consumers and take a meaningful role in making the PayPal platform safe, smooth, and accessible to our hundreds of millions of customers around the world. 

 

Your day-to-day  

Here are some of the tasks you will be responsible for in your day-to-day role:

  • Developing/supporting massive Big Data analytical solutions utilizing graph, machine learning, and text mining algorithms. 
  • Working with analysts to extract meaningful and actionable insights from PayPal data. 
  • Leading analytical projects from inception through research, development, and production on PayPal’s data processing infrastructure. 

 

What do you need to bring  

  • B.Sc. in computer sciences/ mathematics or equivalent 
  • Proven development experience in Python and Java or/ Scala 
  • Hands-on experience with different database solutions (SQL/NOSQL) 
  • 2+ years of experience building production software systems 
  • Excellent English (written and verbal) 

Nice to have (but not a must): 

  • Experience with Spark or other distributed data processing engine 
  • Familiar with and experienced in the GenAI and generative models ecosystem
  • Linux / other *nix - hands-on experience
