The Team
The Product team is seeking a Senior Technical Writer to lead the strategy, execution, and improvement of Nylas’ product documentation. This highly collaborative role works closely with product, engineering, and other key stakeholders to create world-class documentation that developers love and rely on.
As the Senior Technical Writer, you will build efficient systems to manage work streams such as issue reports and the rollout of documentation for new API features and tools. You excel at managing stakeholder relationships, setting clear expectations, and driving documentation initiatives from concept to completion. Your ability to create clear, concise, and engaging technical content makes you an invaluable asset to the team.

What You'll Do
What You Must Bring
Experience: A minimum of 5 years in technical writing, specifically crafting comprehensive documentation for developer audiences. Proven track record in producing high-quality developer-oriented documentation.
Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated ability to read and write code, with hands-on experience in server-side languages such as Node.js, Java, Ruby, or Python. Familiarity with cloud computing concepts and technologies is advantageous.
Documentation Tools: Proficiency in authoring documentation using Markdown. Experience with XML-based publishing systems and working with XML, HTML, and content publishing tools is beneficial.
Empathy and User-Centric Writing: A strong ability to empathize with users, enabling the creation of content tailored to diverse needs and learning styles. Experience in designing and delivering content solutions that meet the needs of technical business customers is preferred.
Open Source Collaboration: Experience engaging with open source communities, including contributing to or managing open source projects. Familiarity with using and following a style guide is also valuable.
Communication and Collaboration: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including developers, engineers, product managers, and usability experts. Experience working directly with software engineering and development teams is advantageous.
Analytical Skills: Strong analytical abilities to understand complex technical concepts and translate them into clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation. Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text and pictures is essential.
Adaptability: A proactive approach to learning new tools, programming languages, and techniques, with the flexibility to adapt to a fast-paced and ever-changing environment. Passion for learning new tools, programming languages, and techniques is highly valued.
Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and consistency across all documentation materials. Ability to deliver high-quality documentation paying attention to detail is crucial.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, Computer Science, English, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent experience will also be considered.

The estimated base salary range for this position is $85,000 CAD to $105,000 CAD. Actual compensation will be determined based on individual qualifications, which are objectively assessed during the interview process. Factors influencing salary include knowledge, skills, experience, and abilities.
