The Team Leader, System Operation & Dispatcher provides frontline leadership for AES Ohio’s 24x7 Distribution Control Room, with full shift accountability for dispatch operations, outage response, and real-time system control. This role is mission-critical to public safety, regulatory compliance, grid reliability, and customer satisfaction. The position directly influences operational performance outcomes including restoration efficiency, call quality, and system status accuracy, and plays a key role in storm response and emergency operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Operational Control: Full shift authority over dispatch and control room operations, including OMS utilization, crew coordination, switching/tagging oversight, and system status management.

  • People Leadership: Direct supervision of Associate Distribution Operators and coordination of contractors and field resources; responsible for performance management, coaching, training progression, and adherence to safety and compliance standards.

  • Risk & Compliance: Ensures compliance with PUCO regulations, CIP requirements, AES policies, and safety procedures; leads response to system disturbances and supports audits and post-event reviews.

  • Performance Ownership: Oversees call management quality, outage response effectiveness, restoration performance, and operational readiness, using KPIs, coaching, and corrective actions to drive results.

  • Call Quality & Compliance Oversight: Oversees call review and call management performance to ensure quality, compliance, and consistency in call handling, documentation, coding, and OMS closure, and uses KPIs, coaching, and corrective actions to address performance gaps and improve results.

  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Serves as a central operational hub between field crews, internal departments, and external stakeholders during normal and emergency conditions.

This role operates in a high-risk, high-reliability environment requiring real-time decision-making under pressure. Decisions directly impact employee and public safety, regulatory compliance, customer experience, and system reliability. The Supervisor must interpret complex system conditions, prioritize competing operational demands, and apply established procedures and engineering concepts with sound judgment.

  • Leads a shift-based team in a 24x7 operational environment

  • Accountable for operational outcomes during assigned shift

  • Influences workforce performance, safety culture, and compliance posture

  • Acts as incident leader during outages, storms, and emergency events

  • Accountable for call quality, documentation accuracy, coding integrity, and OMS closure performance through structured review, KPI monitoring, coaching, and corrective action

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in electric distribution operations or control room/dispatch environments

  • Good communication skills needed to ensure all applicable information is gathered and provided to appropriate parties. 

  • Supervisory or team leadership experience in operations

  • Strong working knowledge of OMS and utility operational systems

  • Ability to maintain required qualifications (TWIC, CIP, internal certifications)

  • Associate’s degree in a related field preferred or equivalent experience

The position will be overnight shift work including weekends and holidays.
