As Cleveland Clinic Main Campus continues to expand, we are creating a comprehensive program that will transform trauma care for our community and beyond. As we work toward Level I Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center activation, caregivers have a unique opportunity to help shape and build a premier trauma program from the ground up. This is a chance to be part of something innovative, impactful, and foundational to the future of trauma care.

The future Trauma Step-Down Unit offers a unique opportunity to lead the development of a new, high-acuity nursing unit that will play a critical role in Cleveland Clinic Main Campus' emerging trauma program. This 14-bed unit will provide specialized nursing care for trauma patients as they transition from the Trauma ICU to the next stage of their recovery. The unit will care for a diverse trauma patient population with complex needs. This unit will initially serve a step-down patient population before transitioning to its long-term role as a dedicated Trauma Step-Down Nursing Floor.

As the Nurse Manager, you will build and lead the nursing team from the ground up, recruiting and developing nurses with a passion for trauma, progressive care, and higher-acuity inpatient nursing. You will establish the unit's culture, workflows, and operational expectations while creating a collaborative environment focused on exceptional patient outcomes. Working closely with trauma physicians, nursing leaders, and interdisciplinary partners, you will help define the trauma step-down care model and participate in planning the continued expansion of trauma services. You will also play a key role in coordinating care across the Trauma ICU, the Trauma Regular Nursing Floor, and other areas of the trauma program to ensure seamless patient transitions throughout the continuum of care. This is an exceptional opportunity for a nurse leader who is energized by building teams, leading through change, and shaping the future of trauma care.

A caregiver in this position works days from 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

• Manage the operation and practice of professional nursing and delivery of nursing care on an assigned unit.  
• Establish clinical direction of nursing care, provide clinical supervision and maintain quality outcomes and patient care standards.  
• Identify and resolve issues affecting the delivery of patient care.  
• Supervise caregivers and promote development.  
• Maintain adherence to JCAHO and other regulatory standards.  
• Coordinate unit operations with other units/departments.  
• Develop and monitor budgets, approve purchases and establish/revise inventory quotes. 
• Analyze personnel structure and determine staffing needs.  
• Evaluate performance, conduct selection and termination processes and develop strategic plans.  
• Participate in clinical nursing research and support foundation research activities.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

• Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) 
• Current state licensure as Registered Nurse (RN) 
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) 
• Three years of recent nursing clinical experience with at least one year of healthcare management experience 
• High degree of clinical expertise in specialty area managed 
• Demonstrated leadership, management, communication, counseling, problems solving, decision making, conflict resolution and group process skills

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

• Master's Degree in Nursing 
• Two years healthcare management experience

Physical Requirements:

• Requires full range of motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye and hand coordination.
• Requires frequent data entry, sitting, standing and walking.
• Requires corrective vision and hearing to normal range.
• Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
