The goal of the Nursing Professional Development Department is to support the provision of quality healthcare in our hospital and serve as a resource to address the learning needs of the nurses. This includes protecting the public by planning and implementing strategies that promote optimal learning and translation of skills and knowledge to the practice environment, thus enhancing competence.
Responsible for overall planning, implementation, management and evaluation of the Nursing Professional Development Program. Plans, directs, coordinates and evaluates continuing education, staff development and competency validation programs for Patient Care Services personnel. Plans, implements, manages and evaluates the Nursing Professional Development Program as necessary for Patient Care Services. Ensures that evidenced based methods and content are utilized in the delivery of education activities. Coordinates initial and ongoing Nursing Continuing Professional Development at UMC.
Job responsibilities include but not limited to:
-Implement an evidence based curriculum for Nursing Sensitive Indicators.
-Develop programs that focus on patient outcomes, leadership in the
management of patient care and the professional role of the nurse.
-Maintains ongoing evaluation of the programs including a database of the
program’s progression.
-Serves as a clinical resource for staff and members of the healthcare team
-Coordinates formal/informal educational offerings for staff.
-Participates in department/hospital wide committees and performance
improvement activities.
-Design professional development to meet identified learning needs of clinical
staff.
-Participates in continuous quality improvement teams and activities.
-Participates in supporting the organization’s vision, mission and values and
adheres to UMC’s Standards of Excellence.
-Performs other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of UMC
and the Department of Nursing Education.
Qualifications:
-Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing
-Valid Texas RN License/Eligible Compact License
-Must maintain a current BLS certification from American Heart
Association
-BSN required
-Minimum of 3 years nursing experience required
-Successful completion of an Accredited Nurse Residency Program preferred
-MSN in Leadership or Education preferred
-Certification preferred
-2-5 years Nursing Professional Development experience preferred
-Excellent Presentation Skills
-Experience with the following topics preferred:
•NCPD/CNE process
•Adult Learning Principles
