Xylem is a Fortune 500 global water solutions company dedicated to advancing sustainable impact and empowering the people who make water work every day. As a leading water technology company with 23,000 employees operating in over 150 countries, Xylem is at the forefront of addressing the world's most critical water challenges. We invite passionate individuals to join our team, dedicated to exceeding customer expectations through innovative and sustainable solutions.

Mechanical mixers are an important part of Xylem’s product offering, supporting key mixing processes within wastewater treatment and various industrial applications. Effective mixing is essential for ensuring efficient process performance, energy optimization, and robust system design.

We are looking for two interns to join our Mixer Laboratory in Sundbyberg supporting a variety of development and research projects.

Goal

The overall goal of the internship is to support experimental work in the mixer laboratory and contribute to ongoing projects aimed at improving Xylem’s understanding, modeling, and sizing of mechanical mixing applications.

The results will support internal research, product development, and updates to Xylem’s design methodologies.

How

  • Become familiar with Xylem’s mixing product portfolio and the basic principles behind mixing in wastewater and industrial applications.

  • • Learn how to operate model mixers and laboratory equipment used in experimental testing.

  • • Support laboratory setup activities, including preparing tanks, fixtures, and instrumentation.

  • • Perform laboratory measurements such as flow visualization tests, velocity measurements (e.g., Particle Image Velocimetry), and other mixing-related experiments. • Analyze collected data and summarize key findings.

  • • If time and project scope allow, you may participate in visits to full-scale facilities to observe mixers in operation.

  • • Compile results, experiences, and conclusions in a final report including suggestions for future work.

Duration

Total eleven (11) weeks, nine (9) working weeks and two (2) free weeks during the summer.

Start and finish of the project according to agreement.

Profile

The foreseen work is both practical and theoretical in its nature. The applicants shall be used to practical/experimental work and also have some insight in fluid mechanics.

We believe you are self-propelled, who like to take initiatives and can work independently.

We believe you are studying Engineering Sciences or similar.

Knowledge of a programming language (e.g. MATLAB or Python) as well as having experienced with performing velocity tests, would be beneficial but not necessary.
