OVERVIEW:
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Delivery & Execution:
Collaborates with other product team members (Design, QA, Engineering, and Product Management) to create secure, reliable, scalable software solutions
Works with Product Team to ensure user stories that are well-scoped, easy to understand, and testable
Implementes unit tests for new software
Contributes to software architecture design, ensuring that the application and infrastructure evolve to meet performance, stability, and functional needs.
Provides timely and comprehensive code reviews for peers
Writes custom code or scripts to automate infrastructure, data analytics, monitoring services, and test cases
Writes custom code or scripts to do “destructive testing” to ensure adequate resiliency in production
Configures commercial off the shelf solutions to align with evolving business needs
Creates meaningful dashboards, logging, alerting, and responses to ensure that issues are captured and addressed proactively
Support & Enablement:
Encourages collaboration across teams by participates in committees, giving presentations, and fielding questions from members of other product teams and CX
Resolves CX cases that are escalated to their product / platform team
Responds to pages, participates in incident management to ensure the stability of software running in production
Participates in post-mortems and retrospectives to ensure continuous improvement
Proactively monitors production Service Level Objectives for products
Proactively reviews the Performance and Capacity of all aspects of production: code, infrastructure, data, and message processing
Learning the basics:
Learns about GameChanger products and customers
Learns about how agile and DevOps processes are applied at GC
Reviews and discusses code from more senior engineers to understand best practices and design patterns
Increases business acumen by learning about the broader DSG business
Learning & Teaching - Industry trends & best practices:
Participates in learning activities around modern software design and development core practices
Proactively views articles, tutorials, and videos to learn about new technologies and best practices being used within other technology organizations
Attends conferences, tech talks, meetups
Shares learnings others - posts to tech.gc.com, gives talks, shares articles, makes book recommendations, etc.
Helping teammates:
Assists with new employee onboarding by buddying
Mentors less experienced engineers
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, or equivalent work experience
3-6 years of experience in software engineering
TypeScript
React JS / Kotlin / Swift
Postgres
AWS
