Our unit focuses on intensive care for adult patients with cardiac,
thoracic, and vascular diseases and or requiring surgeries
related to these categories. Our unit is considered the only
center in Oklahoma that reports thoracic surgery data to the
Society of Thoracic Surgery (STS). Focused patient care areas
include post-operative cardiac surgery (minimally invasive and
open coronary bypass graft, aortic root repair or replacement,
Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), among others.
Post-operative thoracic surgery populations cared for include
esophagectomies, paraesophageal hernia repairs,
fundoplications, video and or robot-assisted thoracotomies,
lobectomies, and pneumonectomies, etc. Post-operative vascular
surgeries include minimally invasive thoracic and abdominal
endovascular aortic repairs (TeVAR/EVAR), bypass grafting of
major arterial vessels (Fem-pop, pop-pop), peripheral artery
stents, etc.
General Description: An OU Health Registered Nurse (RN) I works under general supervision, providing the highest quality of care to patients in a hospital setting with health problems ranging from simple to complex. RN I represents the nurse who is a novice or an advanced beginner advancing to competent. While advancing from novice to competent, the nurse relies on rules rather than principles which are independent of specific situations. The advanced beginner may have enough real experience to begin to formulate principles.
Essential Responsibilities
*Minimum Qualifications (RN I):
Education: Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
Experience: 0-3 years of experience in patient care as a Registered Nurse. License/Certification/Registration:
• Current Registered Nurse License (RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact Registered Nurse (eNLC)).
• Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.
*Minimum Qualifications (RN II):
Education: Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
Experience: 3-5 years of experience in patient care as a Registered Nurse required. License/Certification/Registration:
• Current Registered Nurse License (RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact Registered Nurse (eNLC)).
• Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.
*Minimum Qualifications (RN III):
Education:
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required.
• Master's Degree in Nursing preferred.
Experience: 5+ years of experience in patient care as a Registered Nurse required. License/Certification/Registration:
• Current Registered Nurse License (RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact Registered Nurse (eNLC)).
• Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.
• Specialty certification(s) preferred.
