We are currently seeking to recruit a Senior Operations Manager to work with the artificial intelligence-machine learning (AIML) group to support in driving forward key projects that interface with clinical trials. The AIML group is working in an exciting and exploratory space focusing on areas in which machine learning methods could improve clinical trial success rates.

The Senior Operations Manager will also support the Head of AIML operations and the AIML Director as they work with the AIML leadership to do what it takes to mobilise R&D’s people, time, and resources for maximum patient impact.  This role will be involved in looking for ways create solutions where there are gaps in processes, embed efficient ways of working to allow AIML project teams to focus on the highest value add activities.

This role will be a part of our global AIML team (based in London Kings Cross) and is a terrific opportunity for an experienced PM with clinical trial experience or clinical trial operations to be a part of a team whose aim is to accelerate medicine development for patients.

In this role you will

  • Be accountable for operations on one or more complex projects involving the AIML team, clinical trial teams and multiple 3rd parties. 
  • Development/Maintenance of a project plan, timelines and key stakeholder engagement. Influence for project delivery with quality
  • Vendor Management and oversight
  • Identify/capture key project risks within risk register. Escalate risks to technical and product lead
  • Track project level expenses and support spend forecasts.
  • Meeting Management, including scheduling, facilitation, minutes and follow-up.
  • Understanding of GxP environments and associated external/internal regulatory requirements

There will also be some accountability for day to day operational support of the AIML department, which could include the below but not exhaustive:

  • Planning leadership team meetings, including agendas, actions, key participants,
  • Provide recommendations to identify key gaps and driving forward small business transformation projects that impact AIML
  • Operational oversight and management of the CAPEX (finance) process with finance partners
  • Work with the Operations Head and Director to drive development, interpretation and provision of key performance indicators and analyses.
  • This is a role which must be able to deal with high levels of complexity and ambiguity, as well as be able to effectively navigate through multiple stakeholders and their perspectives.  Requires strong relationship building and influencing skills.
  • Proactively and independently manage a high volume workload proactively to a consistently high standard, by setting priorities, objectives and target dates.

Qualifications & Skills:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • Pharma, CRO and/or Academic Research Organisation experience
  • Clinical trial operations experience and knowledge of clinical trial environment
  • Scientific and operational credibility with evidence of delivery in an R&D environment, including effective matrix working
  • Demonstrated ability to structure and manage projects to deliver stated objectives coupled with a clear understanding of change management principles. Previous experience undertaking project management for strategic business projects and/or demonstrated ability to lead small projects of a strategic nature.
  • Must be curious and able to engage at all levels within and external to the line to create a rich and alternative perspective to the teams that they support.
  • Highly effective communicator (spoken, written, listener).
  • Budgeting and forecasting, commercial and financial acumen

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Post Graduate Degree in a relevant field
  • Results-orientation and drive to set and reach challenging goals; high standards for performance
  • Demonstrates capability to proactively identify and resolves issues with minimal oversight
