General Summary:
Leads interprofessional education (IPE) programming and patient and family educational systems, throughout the medical center and community outreach partnerships. Oversees IPE programs including Resuscitation Programming, Simulation-Based Education, and Behavioral Health Staff Safety programs. Oversees Patient and Family Education systems including The Get-Well Network, The Pederson Family Learning Center, Kids Health, Car Seat safety program, Asthma Education and community partnerships.
Essential Job Functions:
- Leads Simulation-Based education (SBE) programming. Coordinates interprofessional SBE that includes, but is not limited to; Medical Residents, Northwestern University Medical Students, Registered Nurses, Nursing Assistants, Advanced Practice Providers, Medical Providers, Respiratory Therapists, Community and Outreach partnerships and other staff and disciplines as needed.
- Oversees Resuscitation Programming including Basic and Advanced Life Support courses, Policy and Procedures, Accreditation readiness, Crash Cart and equipment readiness.
- Oversees Behavioral Health Safety program for patient-facing clinical and non-clinical staff.
- Leads Patient and Family education systems, initiatives, programming, and community partnerships.
- Leads Financial and Budgeting responsibilities for IPE and Patient and Family Education programs and systems.
- Oversees staff employed in all relevant programming.
- Leads Get Well Network; in room system for patients/families across the hospital including integrated Pathways with Epic. Collaborates with governance committees and leaders across the continuum of care to integrate hospital workflows and patient care.
- Leads Kids Health system; new standardized content management integrated with electronic medical record. Leading change in collaboration with all medical and nursing leaders across the medical center.
- Leads medical center program to provide car seats for patients and families. Leads new revenue generating car seat program for technically accurate fitting car seats for the community.
- Leads analysis of cost-benefit and return on investment of data for governance committees and executive leadership. Includes evaluation of quality outcomes for personnel supporting community education programs (car seat safety, cancer support, disease management etc.
- Leads Health Literacy Task Force and manages health literacy standards providing expert knowledge of consumer health and safety. Influences decisions with leadership across the medical center (clinical/non-clinical roles). Promotes patient/family engagement and activation in collaboration with clinical improvement teams, Family Services, and Patient/Family Experience team.
- Establishes standards for clear communication, and maintains oversight of the creation, editing and formatting of print education materials, and other types of patient-facing text for readability and plain language (including discharge instructions, web content, digital/video systems).
- Manages the Pedersen Family Learning Center (PFLC); centralized consumer health resources for families, community and staff caring for patients. Collaborates with Interpreting Services to streamline translation of education content across various media.
- Manages the Health Sciences Library and reference/clinical support services to medical and hospital staff in patient care, education, research and advocacy; supports clinical care guidelines, systematic reviews, interdisciplinary committees, and broader pediatric specific specialties.
- Leads sustainable models for improved service delivery for patients/families (special needs car seat safety and injury prevention program), and the community (school nurses); proactively searches for and establishes funding and resources for personnel and programs.
- Leads development of strategic community and philanthropic partnerships to further the public health and community mission.
- Advances comprehensive knowledge of consumer health, health literacy, safety and wellness representing expertise in addressing the educational needs of patients and families; to achieve improved health care outcomes.
- Manages compliance to The Joint Commission and all governing agencies for the application of interprofessional resuscitation and simulation education and patient education standards.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Master’s degree in nursing, public health, education, or area of clinical specialization; if masters in other are BSN required.
- Seven-ten years of experience managing and educating adults and pediatric learners with a preference for, nursing, public health, community and patient education experience required.
- Seven-ten years of experience managing complex projects across multiple disciplines leading complex organizational changes required.
- Demonstrates expert business acumen for startup programs aligned to pediatric health literacy, safety, service and/or quality desired.
- Experience working with technology to implement patient education systems required.
- Previous experience with interprofessional and population-based health education programs preferred.
- Demonstrates excellent leadership, coaching, presentation and writing skills.
- Demonstrates ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians, hospital employees, volunteers, potential donors and community members.
- Ability to work across interprofessional teams within the hospital, collaborating at all organizational levels
- Nursing License in the state of Illinois

Pay Range
$119,600.00-$197,350.40 Salary

The pay range for this job indicates minimum and maximum targets for the position. Ranges are regularly reviewed to stay aligned with market conditions.
