Sr. Manager Product Data Management Operations

Description -

The Sr. Manager of Product Data Management Operations role is responsible for providing continuous leadership to multiple subordinate managers and individual contributors and guiding them towards established vision and strategy by applying expert subject matter knowledge.

This highly technical role plays a pivotal role in leading people, process, and technology transformation efforts to drive product data and related process consistency and efficiency and collaborates closely with cross-functional teams, including product development, marketing, sales, and IT, to support business objectives and enhance data-driven decision-making.

Further, this role leads the effort to optimize product data across various platforms and oversees the lifecycle of product data from creation to obsolescence, ensuring data integrity, consistency, completeness, timeliness, and accessibility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Guides the team towards established vision and strategy for product data management solutions across multiple areas.
  • Provides direct and ongoing leadership for multiple subordinate managers and individual contributors, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional development.
  • Ensures resources are appropriately allocated and goals, timelines, and budgets are met in accordance with program and organizational roadmaps.
  • Establish and enforce data quality standards and processes to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of product information. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess and improve data quality.
  • Collaborate with supply chain, product management, marketing, IT, and other stakeholders to gather requirements, define processes, and ensure that product data meets business needs and coordinates with these cross-functional teams to drive improvement in processes and solutions against critical KPIs, identify opportunities for further process improvement and cost reductions, and recommends changes in alignment with business tactics and strategy.
  • Ensures team members are effectively communicating and collaborating with outsourced resources; supports commercial negotiations and establishment of terms related to services and projects.
  • Identifies opportunities for process consolidation and improvements in product data management, implementing best practices and innovative solutions to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Applies expert subject matter knowledge, shapes knowledge base across businesses, functions, or regions, and provides strong leadership, driving change initiatives and monitoring performance goals.
  • Performs talent and people-care management responsibilities including recruitment, performance management, coaching and career development.
  • Ensures that proper knowledge, performance standards and career development tools are in place to support ongoing team member and process development.
  • Develops and delivers training programs for employees on product data management processes and tools, ensuring that teams are equipped to handle product data effectively, and limit single points of failure and dependencies on tribal knowledge.
  • Ensures compliance with industry regulations and internal policies related to data management, privacy, and security.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Management, or a any other related discipline; a Master’s degree is a plus.

Experience: Typically has 10+ years of job-related experience of 8-10 years management experience, preferably in engineering design or product data management.

Preferred Certifications

  • Six Sigma Certification
  • Project Management Professional Certification

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Deep technical understanding of product data and product data management and its impact on the business and customers, including expertise in materials, end-items/SKUs, bills of materials (eBOM, MBOM, SBOM, etc.) part obsolescence, revision control and its relationship to form-fit-function vs. new part creation vs. re-use, product configuration including options and variants, and life cycle management (NPI, EOL, etc).
  • Strong understanding of material disposition (use, scrap, rework) and ability to assess the impact of change and product data integrity on manufacturing, supply chain, engineering, services, and other business functions.
  • Strong understanding of product data management principles and best practices.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with a proven track record of building and developing high-performing teams.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in data and product life cycle management systems, PIM tools, and ERP software.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex data sets and derive actionable insights.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and innovation in data management practices.

The typical base pay range for this role in Vancouver/ Portland area is USD $118,050 - $181,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations within the Houston area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $123,950 - $190,900 per year.
