1Execute the day-to-day activities related to fleet maintenance operation:
Perform inspections, diagnostics, preventative maintenance and repairs to all vehicles in the Operations division, including light and heavy-duty vehicles, off-road equipment and small engines equipment etc.
Maintain an organized safe, and efficient shop environment.
Maintain accurate documentation of vehicle electronic work orders, daily time sheets and other related documents as required
Order parts from vendors for repairs and servicing and assists in monitoring parts inventories
Comply with all Ministry of Transportation (MTO) Regulations and performs annual inspections
Tend to vehicles and equipment needing repair in outdoor field service locations as required
Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electronic systems.
Ensure accurate completion of records, logs, and reports.
Perform other duties as assigned
Ability to be on call as required
Health and Safety, Customer Service
Performs all duties in accordance with Ontario Health & Safety legislation and established policies & procedures
Submits neat and complete written and electronic records including time sheets, maintenance history report forms and other records as directed
Perform manual labour requiring lifting over 50 lbs
Follows equipment operating guidelines
Ensures all PPE is utilized and worn as per requirements
Performs pre and post audits of all equipment utilized
Complete equipment work order forms as required
Responds to customer inquiries according to established procedures and approved decision-making framework
Maintains ongoing communication with internal staff and contractors to maintain a high level of efficiency and service
Minimum Qualifications
Diploma from a recognized college or equivalent education and experience
Minimum two (2) years’ experience in fleet or heavy equipment repair preferably in a municipal operations setting
Possess a valid Ontario Class G driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record that demonstrates responsible and safe driving habits
Must possess a valid 310T Truck and Coach Mechanic Certificate
Working knowledge and experience in the repairs and maintenance of hydraulics, electronics and electrical systems
Basic welding and fabrication skills are required
Experience with vehicle diagnostic equipment
Working knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations, i.e. Ontario Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
Strong communication, interpersonal and customer service skills
Problem solving/troubleshooting skills
Strong mechanical aptitude to operate and troubleshoot issues for repairing equipment in a timely manner.
Must be able to work on all types of equipment such as weed trimmers, lawn mowers, tandem snowplows, graders, loaders and other equipment associated with the municipality
Ability to use computer or mobile-based software to enter time, expenses and work records.
Comfortable using Microsoft Outlook, Excel and related digital tools.
Detail orientated
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
Three (3) years experience in fleet or heavy equipment repair preferably in a municipal operations setting
A Class D license with a Z endorsement or the willingness to acquire a DZ license
310S Auto service Technician Certificate
Hourly Rate: $39.42
