Brief Overview:
With minimal supervision provides administrative support to unit managers and provides support to the nursing and the counseling staff by organizing group materials, handbooks and clinical materials according to unit specific needs. Completes clerical and clinical projects assigned by unit manager. Provides clerical support, including typing general correspondence, memoranda, forms and the like. Performs other related duties such as filing materials, posting information, greeting visitors and answering telephones. Performs direct clinical care to patients as directed by the charge nurse.

What you will do:

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served. This includes knowledge of the physical and psychological needs of patients served and the ability to respond appropriately to those needs.
  • Prepares and maintains a supply of unit specific materials utilized during the admission and discharge process.
  • Collaborates with team to assist in the development of materials to enhance psychoeducation. Participates in program development actions as directed by the unit manager.
  • Reports escalating patient behavior to the appropriate staff and may intervene as needed.
  • Assists with escorting patients to Edward as requested by staff.
  • Assists with safety checks as requested by RN. Ensures patient safety by providing one-to-one supervision. Precautions records are accurately labeled. Ensures patient safety by conducting accurate safety rounds per hospital policy. Conducts safety check and contraband search on admission, as needed per hospital policy.
  • Completes clinical projects assigned by the unit manager.
  • Types letters, reports, tables, forms and the like from rough drafts, handwritten notes and/or report output. Proofs typed copy for typographical errors and submits items to supervisor for review.
  • Sorts, classifies and files materials, catalogs and/or records. Updates records and files as necessary.
  • Posts department information to records, logs and/or journals in accordance with specific instructions. Checks and verifies data appearing on forms and records and performs routine calculations.
  • Responds to telephone or visitor inquiries with standard information requiring basic knowledge of office or department procedures. Forwards difficult and/or non-routine inquiries to appropriate personnel.
  • Generates, reviews accuracy of, and distributes routine reports and lists. Collates and assembles documents for distribution.
  • Opens, sorts and distributes department mail.
  • Performs related department duties such as entering data into computer system, requisitioning and storing office supplies and so forth as requested.
  • Complies with facility safety, infection control and security program.
  • Assists with specimen collection, vitals, EKG (if trained), as delegated by charge nurse.
  • Assists with daily care assignments such as: safety checks, 1:1 monitoring, patient rounding, and specific group facilitation.

What you will need:

  • Bachelors Degree Required Or
  • Bachelors Degree Human Resources Management Required
  • 1 Year of experience providing direct patient care in a psychiatric milieu
  • Maintain information as highly confidential
  • The ability to maintain professional boundaries and willingness to seek supervision
  • The ability to identify escalating behavior
  • Proficiency in the use of personal computer software
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with medical and psychological terminology
  • Skills in teaching or assisting with activities of daily living
  • Prior experience with therapeutic limit-setting and milieu management
  • Knowledge in Microsoft Office software
  • Valid Illinois Driver’s License Required And
  • CPR or BLS - American Heart Association (AHA) is required within 90 days of employment and remains compliance per hospital policy Required And
  • CPI Certification - Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) is required within 90 days of employment and remains compliance per hospital policy Required
