Job Description
Sets up and operates conventional, special purpose, and numerical control (CNC) machines and machining centers to repair and fabricate parts by performing the following duties.
- Interprets blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
- Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.
- Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
- Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
- Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
- Operates CNC mill, CNC plasma, horizontal lathe, manual and CNC mill, and horizontal mill.
- Operates saw, undercutting saw, and handheld plasma.
- Operates welding and fabricating equipment to cut or weld parts.
- Develops specifications from general description and draws sketch of part or product to be fabricated.
- Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
- Performs quality assurance on own and team members’ work.
- Troubleshoots and performs maintenance on machines.
- Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications. Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly.
- Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
- Communicates with vendors on parts and materials.
- Complete required paperwork for each job accurately and on a timely basis.
- Operate company equipment (i.e.: Forklift, Crane, hand tools etc.) in a safe and efficient manner in the performance of all duties as required.
- Comply with all company policies / procedures and perform all job functions in an ethical manner.
- Responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly work area that is free of hazards.
- Complete all required safety training.
- Performs all applicable duties in accordance with ISO procedures, if required.
- Perform other skilled or non-skilled duties as directed by management.
Job Requirements
- Must pass all required pre-employment screenings – Background, MVR, Physical, and Drug screen.
- Be able to comply with all drug and alcohol policies of Houma Armature Works and/or customer sponsored programs. Subject to random Drug and Alcohol screenings.
- Must be willing to work evenings and/or weekends, if required
- Be able to operate motor vehicles in compliance with all state and federal requirements, if travel required.
- Possess valid identification.
- Ability to successfully complete all required training, in-house/offsite.
- Forklift and overhead crane certification required.
- Quick troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Basic/Experienced mechanic knowledge
- Basic computer skills
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to read, write and follow work instructions.
- Ability to interface with co-workers and customers.
- Ability to prioritize, organize and meet deadlines.
- Team player attitude with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Additional Job Details
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
