Applies specialized knowledge to conceptualize, design, develop, unit-test, configure, and implement portions of new or enhanced (upgrades or conversions) business and technical software solutions through application of appropriate standard software development life cycle methodologies and processes. Interacts with the Client and project roles (e.g., Project Manager, Business Analyst, Data Engineer) as required, to gain an understanding of the business environment, technical context, and organizational strategic direction. Defines scope, plans, and deliverables for assigned components. Understands and uses appropriate tools to analyse, identify, and resolve business and or technical problems. Applies metrics to monitor performance and measure key project parameters. Prepares system documentation. Conforms to security and quality standards. Stays current on emerging tools, techniques, and technologies.

Role Summary

  • Participates as a member of development team.
  • Completes development to implement complex components.
  • Contributes to design activities.
  • Develops independently; participates in code reviews. May lead and provide mentoring and guidance to less senior developers.
  • Designs, prepares, and executes unit tests.
  • Independently implements design solutions created by senior developers and Design Authorities.

Required Skills, Experience and Knowledge

  • C/C++ development experience (minimum of 2 years)
  • Basic understanding of relational databases
  • Experience of the full development life cycle, i.e. design, code, unit testing, integration testing, system testing
  • Understanding of automated testing and available tools, preferably some experience and a working knowledge
  • Experience of creating/writing manual test scripts
  • Experience in use of Source Control management tools e.g.  ClearQuest
  • Willingness to mentor junior members and trainees.
  • Ability to work in a process driven environment (evidence of working on defence projects beneficial)
  • Flexibility – willing to work in all areas, e.g. design, code, testing areas as required. Project is already well established, and majority of work will be updating existing code, design, and test collateral.
  • Good experience of working in a team environment – developers work in agile teams of 5 to 6 developers with a scrum master. Communication between team members is extremely important.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills – will be required to produce design documents and test scripts.
