At STM Journals (STMJ), we collaborate with researchers to facilitate the publication of their impactful scientific discoveries, with a focus on rigorous peer review, ethics, and reproducibility across our portfolio of 2700+ hybrid and open access scientific journals. The STMJ Data & Analytics team is a global team of over 20 data professionals with a common goal – to deliver high quality insights and analytics to drive data-based decisions within STMJ and the wider business.

About the Role

The position focuses on developing reports, dashboards, and analyses to support publishers and publishing management. The team works with large and diverse datasets from multiple areas of the business to generate actionable insights. The role will work regularly with Data Warehouse and BI / visualization tools to develop, refine and maintain self-service dashboards and reports for our stakeholders, as well as helping plan and coordinate projects for the development of new reporting and the inclusion of data driven decision-making processes within business activities. This role aligns with a specific Data & Analytics career framework, providing clear development prospects and career path options.

Responsibilities

  • Working with stakeholders understand business challenges, translating these into appropriate analytics solutions, and prioritising work with reference to business objectives and to the value and effort of potential solutions.
  • Efficiently supervising analytics projects through planning work in stages, creating and updating documentation, monitoring progress and communicating with stakeholders and contributors.
  • Blending and modelling data in SQL and Tableau to develop metrics, reports, and dashboards; applying appropriate data visualisation and data story-telling methods which provide clear and actionable insights for colleagues.
  • Apply a good understanding of basic statistical to analytics tasks, including probability, statistical testing, and forecasting methods. Use hypothesis thinking and coach stakeholders them to ask questions where data can help reduce uncertainty or drive a meaningful decision.
  • Communicating to stakeholders with varying levels of data literacy, using a good understanding of the business operations and industry to give meaningful context to any analytics outputs.
  • Working with analytics and technology partners to drive improvements to data analytics processes, and proactively work to mitigate risks and identify opportunities for analytics to help with business objectives.

Requirements

  • Experience in a similar analytical/technical role add in a commercial setting.
  • Experience with data analytics technologies including SQL, Excel, relational databases, and dashboarding tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
  • Inquisitive and loves to work with data as well as to understand the real business problems of stakeholders and how analytics can help to solve them.
  • Experience with project management experience to oversee projects from start to finish. Responsibilities include defining project scope, setting priorities, monitoring progress, and adapting to changing requirements.
