Job Summary

Under the direction of a medical physicist and a radiation oncologist, uses knowledge of treatment planning techniques and the physical characteristics of equipment utilized, to accurately acquire and interpret patient data and generate individualized treatment plans. Accurately calculates and documents treatment machine settings and parameters as required for the delivery of radiation as prescribed.

Essential Functions

  • Assists in the patient simulation process and acquires all necessary patient data and measurements required for treatment planning.
  • Performs both manual and computer-generated treatment plan calculations using simulation data and as prescribed by a radiation oncologist for both external beam and brachytherapy procedures.
  • Oversees the planning, production and fabrication of custom treatment devices, including blocks, immobilization devices and bolus materials.
  • Documents and verifies treatment information in patient’s chart. Performs ongoing quality assurance of each patient’s treatment course by performing weekly and end of treatment chart reviews.
  • Assists or performs patient simulation, treatment planning, and treatment set-up for various special procedures (e.g. HDR, TBI, SRS, prostate brachytherapy).
  • Assists or performs in-vivo patient dose measurements as required using various methods of dosimetry.
  • Performs independent checks of treatment calculations for completeness and accuracy.
  • Teaches applied aspects of dosimetry to other employees and students as required.

Qualifications

  • Required Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in a physical/life science, radiation therapy program
  • Required Graduate of an accredited medical dosimetry JRCERT program of at least 12 months
  • 2 years of relevant experience in radiation oncology as a medical dosimetrist Preferred
  • CRT-Medical Dosimetrist - MDCB Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board 1 Year required
