Job Responsibilities:
- Protects patients, visitors and employees by providing escorts, patrolling grounds, and eliminating safety hazards.
- Deters vandalism, theft and property abuse through routine patrols of all hospital property to include inside areas as well as all parking lots and decks.
- Enforces Cleveland Clinic Akron General facility policies e.g. parking regulations, visitation policies, drug enforcement, tobacco free/smoking policy).
- Monitors hospital/facility activity on closed circuit television to be alerted to any escalating situations that may require security involvement.
- Intervenes in patient, visitor and/or staff confrontations as appropriate.
- Completes appropriate documentation of various incidents.
- Advises Dispatcher of all duties performed as required by post.
- Demonstrates understanding of emergency procedures, alarm response, evacuation and internal and external disaster plans.
- Patrols or remains at assigned post as required and completes all post specific duties. Ensures that post remains clean, neat and free of all non-work related material.
- Emergency Department metal detector searches will be conducted by all Cleveland Clinic Akron General Security Officers, using a magnetometer and/or hand-held scanning devices.
- All patients and visitors entering the Emergency Department will be searched, all bags, backpacks, briefcases, knapsacks, purses, or parcels will be placed on a table and searched. The Security Officer will wand all new admissions to the Emergency Department, inclusive of the belongings and/or the patient as appropriate. When completed, this activity must be called in to the Dispatch via radio to be logged.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Follows Health System and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.
- Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department-specific competencies and requirements.
Education:
- High School diploma or GED is required.
- Bachelors or Associates degree in field related to Criminal Justice is preferred.
- Completion of an OPOTC (Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission) approved Private Security Academy is preferred.
Certifications:
- Valid Ohio driver’s license required.
- Must be insurable and meet expectations of the Cleveland Clinic Transportation & Fleet Vehicle Policy/plan to be permitted to drive a company vehicle.
- Obtains the provided training and certification for N.A.P.P.I., (Non-Abusive Psychological and Physical Intervention) training within the first six months of hire and annually thereafter.
- Obtains the provided training and certification for the X-2 Taser Training certification within the first year of hire and annually thereafter.
- If required for job assignment, may be required to obtain the provided training and certification for the A.S.P. (Armament Systems and Procedures) Baton certification within the first year of hire and annually thereafter.
- BLS from American Heart Association required within three (3) months of start date.
- First Aid training completion is required and maintained: will be provided by Cleveland Clinic Akron General in MyLearning systems.
Complexity of Work:
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate in a courteous and direct manner.
Work Experience:
- One year previous experience as a Security Officer (or similar in a related field) is required.
- Honorable discharge from military service can be substituted for related work experience.
- Completion of coursework in higher education in a related field can be substituted for some or all required work experience.
Physical Requirements:
- Meets the standards of the Basic Physical Fitness Standards upon hire and on an annual basis.
- Requires extensive walking, standing, sitting, talking, listening, and documenting when directing or investigating concerns/incidents.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
