Church & Dwight is seeking an experienced Senior Scientist, Product Development to join our R&D team. This role provides technical leadership in the development, qualification, and implementation of new oral care products, as well as ongoing maintenance and improvement of existing products. The position plays a key role in driving innovation while ensuring product quality, regulatory compliance, and successful commercialization.
The Senior Scientist, Product Development is responsible for leading formulation and product development efforts from concept through launch, including technology transfer to pilot and manufacturing sites. The role supports production start-ups, new product introductions, and continuous improvement initiatives for existing brands.
This position requires strong scientific rigor, project leadership, and cross-functional collaboration with Marketing, Processing, Packaging, Analytical, Safety, and Clinical/Regulatory teams. The successful candidate will design and execute laboratory experiments, develop prototypes, analyze data, and provide clear, data-driven recommendations to management.
Hybrid: The role will be based in Princeton, NJ, and requires in-person attendance on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, with remote work options on Mondays and Fridays.
Conduct product research and development from concept to launch, including technology transfer to pilot lab and manufacturing sites.
Provide technical support for production start-ups, new product launches, existing brand maintenance, and manufacturing operations to maintain product quality and integrity.
Lead bench-top formulation development of oral care products, including mouth rinse and adjacent delivery formats.
Design and execute laboratory experiments, prototypes, and optimization studies using scientific principles.
Collect and analyze stability and performance data. Prepare reports, draw conclusions, and make data-based recommendations to management.
Identify product concepts and technical approaches, demonstrate feasibility, develop detailed project plans, and execute against objectives and commitments.
Analyze consumer feedback to identify unmet needs and product gaps. Prepare summary reports and initiate follow-through actions.
Create, update, and maintain electronic product specifications. Assemble Product Bundle Books, Design History Files, and supporting documentation for new product launches.
Stay current with emerging oral care technologies, active ingredients, delivery systems, and competitive products.
Adhere to established laboratory procedures and policies for FDA-regulated product development.
Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior staff as needed.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Biochemistry, or a related discipline with 8+ years of laboratory experience; or
Master’s degree with 5+ years of experience; or
Ph.D. with 3+ years of experience.
An Associate Degree with 15+ years of relevant, related work experience will also be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in oral care or consumer product formulation.
Experience supporting product commercialization and manufacturing scale-up.
Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects in a cross-functional environment.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $92,500–$131,700.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal pay parity. Compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
