Job Description

To reduce our dependence on rainfall and groundwater and support the growing population, Water Corporation has formed the Alkimos SeaWater Alliance, which includes ACCIONA Construction Australia, ACCIONA Agua and Jacobs.

The Alliance will design, construct, operate and maintain the Plant which will produce 50 billion litres of drinking water per year, with provision to expand by an additional 50 billion litres per year in the future.

We’re seeking a highly motivated Design Manager to join our team. Reporting to the Engineering Design Manager and working alongside Project Engineers and Design Partners, you will play a pivotal role in managing all aspects of the design process.

About the Opportunity

This is a senior role responsible for leading a design team of internal resources and external consultants. You will effectively control and manage all design management aspects of infrastructure projects to ensure the design meets all technical, contractual, commercial, and program deliverables aspects.

Key accountabilities for the position will be:

  • Significant experience in Water Treatment Engineering and Management required. Specifically, extensive experience in rotating and static mechanical reequipment, pressure vessels and valves.
  • Provide technical direction and support, day to day supervision, coordination, workload management and review of mechanical engineering team.
  • Establish, manage, and maintain a realistic design program and deliverables to satisfy contract, procurement, and construction requirements by monitoring progress; coordinating activities; resolving problems, and ensuring the timely production of design reporting information as required.
  • Manage the design-related RFI's, NCR's, design change, and closure of comments between stakeholders including Design and Construction Delivery teams.
  • Ensure technical compliance with project requirements and with relevant building codes, regulations and standards.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering (mechanical).
  • Considerable demonstrated experience in a similar position working within EPC, D&C, and PPP projects.
  • Problem-solving, analytical thinking, and leadership skills.
  • Experience in desalination and water treatment plant design.
  • Must demonstrate previous experience within multidisciplinary and international teams.
