The Intermediate Diagnostic Technologist works under the supervision of the Supervising Clinical Coordinator: Performs general radiographic examinations; receives and reviews patient radiology orders for diagnosis and examinations requested; operates a variety of x-ray equipment; positions patients and determines appropriate radiation exposure factors; assists Radiologist during fluoroscopic examinations; operates imaging equipment equipment and performs image quality control; performs miscellaneous related duties; This position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and service appropriate to the age of the patients served in their area
Minimum Required:
Actively enrolled and participating in an associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or tech-school.
Employment Type: Variable Staffing, no set hours.
Shift: Set every 4th weekend 3p-11p, pick up hours as available
Weekly Scheduled Hours: 0-16 hours

- BLS/CPR through the American Heart Association
Prepares patient for Radiology Procedure:
- Receives work assignments from the Technical Coordinator.
- Checks RIS traffic control screen to obtain patient orders; properly identifies patients and verifies examinations requested.
- Performs an assessment to include the patient's ability to comply with the examination, the patient's understanding of why the procedure is being performed, and the understanding of how to obtain the results of their examination.
- Clearly explains the examination to the patient; establishes and maintains good communications with patients during and after examinations; offers prompt assistance and answers questions; and maintains patient privacy and comfort.
Performs general radiographic examination:
- Under the supervision of a Registered Diagnostic Technologist, performs general radiographic examinations.
- Selects and sets up appropriate x-ray machine, accessories and sets-up sterile and non-sterile supplies, and accurately prepares and positions patients for examinations in accordance with standard policies and procedures.
- Assists physicians with invasive procedures and handles all technical aspects of the examination.
- Provides gonad shielding and patient immobilization devices; determines radiation exposure factors and sets x-ray controls.
- Consistently demonstrates ability to properly operate various radiographic systems.
- Recognizes signs of equipment malfunction and reports problems to the Technical Coordinator, operates CR equipment.
Performs film quality control:
- Distinguishes between acceptable and unacceptable images.
- Reviews images for correct patient positioning and x-ray exposure.
- Utilizes technologist initials on all images; accurately labels radiographs with patient identification and Right or Left lead markers.
- Labels time of examination when appropriate.
Appropriate use of resources:
- Performs radiographic examinations in a professional manner; completes examinations within established department time frames.
- Demonstrates the ability to complete a heavier than normal workload.
- Actively participates in the x-ray student-training program.
- Demonstrates teamwork and assists other staff when needed.
Performs record documentation:
- Records a pertinent patient history or other unusual patient condition; completes billing procedures; documents information in the HIS/RIS as required.
- Obtains a patient consent form when appropriate.
- Scans documents into PACS as necessary.
Performs related duties:
- Cleans CR cassettes, supply cabinets, and x-ray equipment; participates in special department projects.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of examination rooms; restocks supplies as needed.
- Processes CR cassettes as needed; and other duties as assigned.
