POSITION: Operations Ice Technician & Supervisor

DEPARTMENT:  Operations

REPORTS TO: Director of Operations

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

Summary

Ice Technician prepares and maintains facility ice floor for all hockey practices, hockey games, and other ice events. This position is responsible for the supervision and guidance of the operations crew during setup, tear down, move in, move out and changeover of all events. Responsible for managing, preparing, and maintaining the facility, ice floor and resurfacing equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees installation of ice, which includes freezing floor, painting base color, lines and logos, and building up the ice sheet.
  • Prepare ice for all practices, games, and other ice events.  Duties include removing debris; checking ice depth; scraping, edging, and resurfacing ice.
  • Operate and maintain the ice-resurfacer and ice-edger.
  • Repairs and builds ice. 
  • Monitor temperature and humidity levels of facility.
  • Ability to properly operate, maintain, and drive a Zamboni.
  • Keeps maintenance and operational logs of plant and ice operations equipment.
  • Operates and maintains refrigeration plant.
  • Maintains inventory as needed. Helps administer preventive maintenance program of department equipment in cooperation with Assistant Director of Operations.
  • Assist with general related maintenance of the building in between games and ice events.
  • Oversee and direct employees who assist with installation and maintenance of ice.
  • Assist in planning, directing, and coordinating of set up activities consistent with facility standards.
  • Obtain any licenses, certificates or training required by company, local, state or national authorities for the operation of the equipment found in the facility.

Education and Experience:

  • At least one year of experience with ice floors and related equipment
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Knowledge of ice rink and dasher systems, refrigeration systems and control systems required
  • Knowledge and experience in operation of ice maintenance tools and equipment
  • Current driver’s license required
  • Experience using Microsoft Office software

Skills, Abilities, and Physical Demands:

  • Ability or willingness to be trained to operate power equipment including forklifts, man lifts, pickups, trucks, etc.
  • Ability to work extended and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays, as needed
  • Demonstrate knowledge in the practice and procedures related to all areas of custodial, event set up, tear down and changeovers
  • Ability to work independently, exercising judgement and initiative
  • Ability to visually inspect equipment
  • Ability to climb steps and to walk extensively throughout the facility
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly
