The duty-free store on the Ambassador Bridge Plaza is one of the most exciting places to work in Detroit. Ambassador Duty Free Detroit provides visiting guests with a unique shopping experience. Our duty-free savings and offerings include designer fragrances from around the world, exquisite jewelry handcrafted by renown designers, clothing and accessories, and of course premium spirits, beer, and cigars. Our facility is located in a secure U.S. Customs environment.

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for both performing and leading custodial and maintenance duties to ensure the retail store remains consistently clean, safe, and welcoming for customers and employees. This role actively participates in daily cleaning tasks, oversees the custodial team, monitors supply and equipment inventory, and ensures compliance with health, safety, and sanitation standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily cleaning duties alongside the custodial team, including sales floors, restrooms, showers, entryways, and common areas.
  • Supervise, train, and motivate custodial staff to maintain high standards of cleanliness and safety.
  • Develop and manage cleaning schedules that align with store hours, customer traffic, and seasonal demands.
  • Conduct daily walk-throughs to identify and address cleanliness, maintenance, or safety concerns.
  • Ensure high-traffic areas and restrooms are maintained throughout the day for a positive customer experience.
  • Operate, monitor, and maintain custodial and fuel equipment in compliance with operator certification requirements.
  • Track supply and equipment inventory, ensuring proper use of cleaning chemicals and tools in line with safety standards.
  • Coordinate with store leadership for special events, promotions, or seasonal setup/cleanup needs.
  • Respond promptly to customer or employee concerns related to cleanliness or safety.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (associate degree preferred).
  • 2–4 years of custodial, maintenance, or facilities experience, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of cleaning techniques, custodial equipment, and safe chemical handling.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Physical ability to perform cleaning duties, stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs. as required.
