Job Description:

The Global Commercial Banking (“GCB”) Business Controls team equips GCB with the tools and resources needed to identify, escalate, debate and mitigate operational and compliance risk. The team provides primary support for Global Commercial Banking, however, may support efforts spanning other Global Banking businesses as well.  This role is focused on supporting operational risk management and business controls, providing oversight and monitoring of GCB compliance with regulation, policy, and procedures.  The successful candidate must have or develop a deep understanding of GCB and its global business, as well as a deep understanding of the risk programs supported by the team.  The candidate should also have a broad understanding of the enterprise and financial services industry. The ability to collaborate with Business Controls peers, Line of Business and Product subject matter experts and Control Partners (including Compliance / Operational Risk / Audit / Regulatory Relations) will be critical to success.

The position resides on the GCB Business Controls team, housed within the GCB National Operations and Business Integration function, supporting multiple aspects of risk management work. Candidate must be able to thrive in a fast-paced and professional environment with the following responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

Lead, manage and govern multiple risk and control programs, in partnership with GCB leaders and Business Controls teammates, to effectively manage operational risk and ensure GCB compliance with regulation, policy, and procedures:

• Sustainability – Lead and enable Business Controls support for GCB Sustainability activities.
  • Training – Partner with the Academy, Risk and product partners to develop, foster delivery and monitor LOB sustainability training, including greenwashing content.
  • Greenwashing – Provide oversight and direction for GCB Greenwashing escalations, controls and metrics.
  • Inspections – Participate in audits and inspections of GCB Sustainability practices and activities.
  • Reporting – Foster accurate and timely GCB sustainability-related reporting contributions and information including reporting for enterprise commitments and exposure regarding sustainable finance.
  • Governance – Represent GCB in enterprise sustainability-related transaction reviews, governance venues/forums and activities, including liaising with the Global Environmental Group (“GEG”), Cross-LOB Rapidly Emerging Environmental and Social Topics group (“CREST”) and Environmental Social Business Portal (“ESBP”).  Establish and anchor GCB-specific sustainability governance, as needed.
  • Represent GCB in additional sustainability-related activities, including serving as the GCB lead for Enterprise SPI Sustainability processes and controls, and participating in GCB’s quarterly Risk Identification process and inventory refresh.

• Risk Identification (“Risk ID”) – Partner with and support the Business Controls lead for the GCB Risk Identification inventory and quarterly refresh process in alignment with Enterprise standards and governance requirements. The inventory contains risks with potential impact to GCB financial performance and capital.  Enable LOB leadership, Risk, Finance, product leaders and control stakeholders to assess impacts across risk types, facilitate review and challenge activities, and document outcomes within the system of record.
• Client Selection – Partner with and support Business Controls teammates anchoring Client Selection work on behalf of GCB.  Deepen client selection expertise and program management skills, supporting improvement and risk mitigation work as needed, including but not limited to potential Issue mitigation, client team consultation, procedural documentation, control development, measurement and monitoring, for higher risk client types.
• Policy & Procedures – Own and anchor select GCB procedures, largely driven by Enterprise policy and/or regulatory requirement.  Serve as a GCB subject matter expert, providing guidance, driving adherence and monitoring business performance for associated programs including but not limited to multiple sustainability procedures impacting GCB.

• Additional Responsibilities
  • Maintain program summary documents and evidence of process control routines for the risk program(s) supported.
  • Analyze, monitor, interpret, and report data and information related to risk and control programs and leverage it to identify and drive resolution of potential issues or inefficiencies.
  • Liaise with Business Controls management and teammates, business process owners, and Control and Support Partners (e.g. Global Compliance and Operational Risk, Global Strategy and Enterprise Platforms, Operations, etc.)
  • Support select audit and inspection activity within the business.
  • Support operational risk mitigation efforts via Issue or MRA remediation.
  • Support other management routines as required related to Line of Business’ internal control disciplines.
  • Act as an ambassador of the risk culture.

Desired Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, with 5 years of experience with preference for operational risk or compliance program experience, knowledge of regulatory and public policy space specific to Sustainability and/or experience working with one or more wholesale banking divisions.
• Working knowledge of Global Commercial or Corporate Banking processes and systems.
• 5 years of banking experience and risk management and/or commercial banking experience or exposure.
• Direct involvement in (or in support of) sustainability work, sales operations, sales activities, or strong working knowledge of sales/controls processes of a wholesale/institutional business unit.
• Knowledge of and ability to navigate the enterprise.
• Strong technical expertise in Co-pilot, SharePoint design and/or PowerPoint and/or Excel; Ability to improve reporting and analytics efficiency. 
• Seasoned understanding and use of AI, including Co-Pilot

Pay range

$104,000.00 - $159,900.00 annualized salary, offers to be determined based on experience, education and skill set.

Discretionary incentive eligible

This role is eligible to participate in the annual discretionary plan. Employees are eligible for an annual discretionary award based on their overall individual performance results and behaviors, the performance and contributions of their line of business and/or group; and the overall success of the Company.
