Job Summary
The Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization team is looking for a Principal Software Quality Engineer to play a crucial role in our product quality assurance to develop and maintain the OpenShift Virtualization Test repository.  You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product Management and Software Development Engineers, to gain a deep understanding of features, customer use cases, and technical implementations. This knowledge will enable you to design real-world test plans, build test suites, and drive the integration of quality-driven methodologies throughout the software development lifecycle. With your deep technical expertise and leadership skills, you'll contribute to the development and implementation of advanced quality engineering strategies. This position requires a self-motivated individual who can work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, and has a strong passion for delivering our top-notch software products.  

As a Principal Quality Engineer,  you will be responsible for automation repository maintenance and framework improvement:Assume full responsibility for the upkeep of the OpenShift Virtualization Test automation repository. This involves regular code reviews, prompt defects resolution, and continuous enhancement of the repository's infrastructure to ensure its smooth operation, security and  making it more robust, efficient, and adaptable to product future requirements.  Also be responsible for test development and critical fixing:Champion the development of both manual and automated tests. Design and execute test cases that are not only efficient but also contribute to the acceleration of the testing cycle. By doing so, you'll significantly enhance the overall quality of the product, ensure it meets the highest standards and zero in on critical issues that affect the stability of the Test automation repository, develop and implement solutions to resolve these issues promptly.  

In this role, you’ll also have the opportunity to engage with open-source communities, contribute to the integration of Red Hat, open-source, and partner technologies into a cohesive platform, and play a critical role in delivering high-quality software to customers and open-source ecosystems.

What you will do:

  • Develop, maintain and enhance Test framework and Test Automation repositories. 

  • Give thoughtful and prompt code reviews.

  • Provide technical vision and leadership on critical and high-impact features. 

  • Write and review test cases both manual and automation and work with QE and software engineers to ensure product quality.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve the automation-related issues to ensure the seamless and uninterrupted operations in Test. 

  • Use CI/CD best practices to deliver solutions as productization efforts 

  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by sharing recommendations and technical knowledge with team members

  • Collaborate with product management, other engineering, and cross-functional teams to analyze and clarify business requirements

  • Mentor, influence, and coach a distributed team of engineers

Requirements: 

  • Minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience

  • Advanced experience testing applications in Python

  • Advanced in test automation frameworks pytest 

  • Experienced in maintaining the upstream projects in github. 

  • Experienced with source code management tools such as Git

  • Excellent system understanding and troubleshooting capabilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

The following will be considered a plus:

  • Development experience in Python and/or Golang

  • Experienced in Virtualization knowledge

  • Experienced in Kubernetes, OpenShift, or other cloud-native technologies

  • While a Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science or a related discipline is valued, we prioritize practical experience and technical prowess

  • Understanding of how Open Source and Free Software communities work
