About you and this role:

Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Production Operator at the Texas City, Texas location.

We are looking for a top-caliber, technically capable Production Technician/Operator who embraces change, adapts fast, makes decisions quickly, possesses self-confidence and is a lifelong learner. This position requires a high degree of dedication to safety and environmental stewardship.

Responsibilities:

  • Performing routine operation of basic control systems and devices to monitor levels, temperatures, pressures and flow rates and transfer of products.
  • Lift hoses and operate valves and similar equipment including the proper clearing and isolation of equipment.
  • Follow operating discipline, procedures, and practices to ensure a safe and efficient operation of assigned duties.
  • Control, monitor and make necessary adjustments on control systems and manually operated equipment.
  • Troubleshoot process, product quality, safety, and environmental problems and identify equipment requiring maintenance.
  • Identifies equipment requiring maintenance.
  • Ensure safe and efficient performance of maintenance and project work.
  • Acts as a resource for other Operators and/or Technicians on job tasks and prioritization of work activities.
  • Take ownership for the accurate completion of all assigned tasks.
  • Must certify on multiple roles which may include working as an inside Control Board Operator, Outside Operator or in a Relief Operator/Technician capacity, covering vacancies on multiple shifts.
  • Experienced operators train other operators as required based on business needs.
  • Communicates with transportation providers on issues related to carriers and equipment.
  • Accurately completes all required paperwork. Maintains necessary records and files in accordance with business requirements.
  • Performs daily sample analysis.
  • Performs calibration checks of analytical equipment and systems and responds appropriately.
  • Must be comfortable making independent decisions on approval or rejection of products based on analytical data.
  • Packages RCRA waste, completes paperwork, and arranges for disposal.
  • Serves on the Fire Brigade/Site Emergency Response Team, as required by the Texas City Operations Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Complete all duties as assigned with a high degree of dedication to safety and environmental stewardship.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED AND one of the following is required:
    • Associate/equivalent or higher degree.
    • Currently pursuing an Associate's degree in Process Technology and will graduate within the next three (3) months.
    • In lieu of a degree Dow will consider those with three (3) or more years of military service in a technical specialty.
    • Five (5) or more years of manufacturing experience as a Production Technician/Operator with demonstrated strong technical, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • Valid US Driver's License and ability to obtain forklift certification upon being hired. 
  • Willing and able to work a rotating shift and overtime as required (including weekends & holidays). 
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.  No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or higher in Process Technology, Industrial Engineering, Engineering, Chemical Instrumentation and /or Electrical or Computer Technology.
  • Process Technology certification.

  • Communication: Ability to communicate effectively.
  • System procedures:  Ability to work with system as a network of procedures which are integrated and designed to carry out the major activity. It consists of a set of processes and each process constitutes detailed methods, procedures, and routines which are required to carry out a specific activity, perform a duty, or solve a problem.
  • Mechanical aptitude: Ability to understand and use machines or tools.
  • Detail-Oriented: Ability to pay attention to the minute details of a project or task, ensuring accuracy and completeness in one’s work.
  • Time management: Ability to plan and exercise conscious control of time spent on specific activities, especially to increase effectiveness, efficiency, and productivity. It involves a juggling act of various demands upon a person relating to work, social life, family, hobbies, personal interests, and commitments with the finiteness of time.
  • Risk awareness: Ability to understand what risks exist, their potential impacts, and how they are managed.

Able to meet the following physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations:

  • Lift, push, and pull up to 55 lbs.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.
  • Stand, walk, stoop, and twist.
  • Stand 50% of the time.
  • Walk for extended periods of time.
  • Work at heights, climb stairs, scaffolding, and ladders.
  • Work in tight and closed in spaces.
  • Wear all Personal Protective Equipment, as required, including but not limited to full face respirator or SCBA; and FRC clothing while performing outside duties.
  • Work in an area of intense or continuous noise.
  • Work in an area with hazardous materials.
  • Lift hoses and operate valves and similar equipment as a normal part of the job.
  • Pass physical capabilities test if job offer is received and accepted.
  • Meet physical requirements for the emergency response team.
  • This role does involve elevated work greater than or equal to four feet above the ground.
  • Must be able to wear and use personal protective equipment (PPE), including harnesses with a total weight capacity of 300lbs.
